Where to buy a PC

Due to my ongoing issues with my current PC (covered on another thread) I have decided I might have to cut my losses and just replace it.

I tend to just go to PC world and ask what they have available, but is there somewhere else I should be considering? My PC is used for emails, basic documents , basic photos and online for eBay and MSE. I don't do any gaming nor do I listen to music or play videos.

My current PC is less than 2 years old but 2 techie people have now suggested I have a hardware issue that wasn't solved by a complete factory reset. One techie guy says he can spend some time in a week or so trying to work out what is wrong, but frankly this has started to cost me time now as I spend several hours a day with the PC either completely stuck, or just in an endless loop waiting for eBay to open.

It's a Lenovo with all the pc stuff being in the monitor, and it would suit me not to have to go back to a PC with a box .

  • Are you typing this thread from that pc ? at a cursory glance the other thread has not even reached to the conclusion that the pc is burgered , but personally I would not buy an all in one ever.

I'm currently using my iPad as I can't get any browser open at all on the PC. It will probably come back on tomorrow now.

If you'd had one in a box, you would have been able to keep your monitor and all other parts, just replacing the box (but keeping the hard drive). As it is, you now have to replace the whole thing

You should be able to take the hard drive out of the current one before you dispose of it. Then use it as an external or secondary.

Look at the desktops and Laptops on the Dell site.

See if you like the spec and price of one there and ask about it on here.

I'm similar usage to you but I also watch stuff on youtube and live sport via some sites.
    No gaming.

I've had bulk standard spec desktops and the latest I've bought is quite high end.

In all honesty I see little difference between the high spec and the average spec.

Seems that you haven't yet learned your lesson.
Some all-in-one desktop computers are characterized by an inability to customise or upgrade internal components, as the systems' cases do not provide convenient access to upgradable components, and faults in certain aspects of the hardware may require the entire computer to be replaced, regardless of the health of its remaining components.

But yet, you want to do it again...because it looks oh so good. :)

Have you updated the BIOS on the PC? Did the problem begin after your upgrade to Windows 10?

A proper model number would be helpful.

    Lenovo C40-30? Check properly.

The obvious way to go is back to a traditional box - they're much more flexible and if something goes wrong in the box, it won't affect your monitor.

I've always got new PCs from eBuyer - have had two Zoostorms from them, more at the lower spec end and been quite happy.
  • Hi,

you could try the Argos ebay shop, PCs, Laptops.

I certainly wouldn't be abandoning an under 2 year old PC, although being a AIO does make things more difficult. If you want better retailer support with your next purchase you could buy from John Lewis who have standard 2 year warranty on computers (and longer on certain models).

Mum bought one of those zoostorms from Argos, special offer + vouchers so it worked out cheaper.

Its a crappy celeron but there are no fans inside the machine and its barely bigger than 2 laptops. Perfectly adequate for what she does.

    Web browsing and skype etc..

PC customiser on ebay if your after something a little more powerful/ I think thats the username? I think a few on here said they are legit?

I wouldn't give up on a 2 year old machine either! It's not really clear from the other thread where the problems are occurring.

If you're willing to just chuck out the old machine and get a new one, it would be well worth reinstalling the operating system first to see if that fixes the issues.
