Halfords parking fine.

Hi really need some help on what to do with this parking fine. My Daughter received a parking fine for parking in Halfords car park. She parked there after a night out and was chatting with friends. The fine was issued for overstaying the permitted two hours. The fine was issued at 02.55 am when the store wasn't even trading. We followed some advice from friends and from watching a watchdog episode about private parking firms on watchdog and thought the fine was unfair so just ignored it. The fine has now got to the stage of receiving letters from Wright Hassall solicitors (apt name) the letters are very threatening and saying we could receive ccjs. They are now asking for £100 really need some advice on what to do next????

  • now why are parking eye using wright hastle?

in your notice to keeper from parking eye , was there a paragraph saying "if after 28 (or 29) days you do not name the driver we will use POFa 2012 etc etc or is there a big gap on the page?

first, its not a "fine" its a speculative INVOICE

SECONDLY, that WATCHDOG VIDEO is about 6 YEARS OLD and probably only applies Scotland and N.I. since POFA2012 came in during 2012 , so talk about out of date and out of touch

this appears to be at the debt collector stage , or has been escaled to WH (which I doubt) - so more likely a debt collector letter on WH notepaper

nobody can get a CCJ unless they lose in court AND DONT PAY THE JUDGEMENT PROMPTLY (usually within 28 days)

its failure to pay a court order that results in a CCJ , this is nowhere near that stage

and the fact its at night and the shop is closed isnt really relevant , its still parking on private land without permission
  • I'm afraid we have binned the original fine as this was the sort of advice we listened to, so can't check that now. The stay was only 1 hour and not two as I first stated. Kind of wish we just paid the fine. Just felt unfair as the business was not being affected because it was the early hours and not in the shops opening hours.

but halfords wanted their car park clear at nights !

however sending a letter to someone 2 weeks after they have parked , sort of defeats this

normally PE would not hesitate in starting court action , alas you have disposed of all the paperwork , it would have shown time arrived , time left and the total time PE do not just issue tickets at "xx.XX" , they state time

It's not ParkingEye is it? Pathetic old G24 surely? NO-ONE pays them!

What about when you searched the forum for 'Wright Hassall' you must have learned this is just debt collector rubbish, so what are you worried about? G24 never sue people.

Search the forum for 'G24 Wright Hassall' and laugh about these daft letters.

  • Thanks. I did google Wright Hassall and did seem a bit of a scam. Still get concerned when everything looks so official.
  • wright hastle were one a well thought of solisitors , now they sell blank note paper to the likes of ZZPS , have you had letters from zzps or debt recovery plus or parking collection services?

on the nice WH letter who does it say you have to pay?

Yes (maybe...not really 'official' just a letter) but read about G24 and the fact they never try court:

    https://bmpa.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/203747112-Wright-Hassall

Nothing to worry about. Come back if G24 change the habit of a lifetime and we'll assist with a defence.

  • It doesn't really tell me who to pay just gives a number to call and discuss repayment.
