Hello after spending my morning scraping the oven doors with a wallpaper scraper:embarasse :embarasse to get the burnt on food off. I now need some way of cleaning the inside that doesn't involve nasty chemicals (or money) Any tips for a bad housewife trying to mend her ways???? (other than not letting it get that bad in the first place:embarasse )

Have you tried biological washing powder. I used this recently on my oven and it worked a treat. It is a bit harder on the sides but you can use cold water to make a thick paste. Leave it on for a while and then wash it off. Still use gloves though, it's not nice on your hands. I soaked the trays in the bath with washing powder also and then gave them a little scrub. I buy the Asda 50p smart price powder which seems fine.0

The washing powder idea sounds great unfortunately i have washing liquid (on offer in tesco) but i will buy some cheap stuff tomorrow and try it. Thank you so much, and i promise to stop being so slovenly in the future!!!I don't get nearly enough credit for not being a violent psychopath.0

Im going to try this today, hope it works, the oven is the one thing i HATE cleaning and have let it get way past the stage it should do!!
Ill let you know how i get on, beacuse if the wash powder works on my oven it will clean anything!!!Proud to be DEBT FREE AT LAST0 -
OK, I have to confess I hardly ever clean my oven (once since last Christmas!) and it does get quite bad but I use a product called Oven Pride which is £3.99 from Wilkos, yes it is a chemical product but no odour and it does the job better than anything else I have ever tried! It is a thick gunge which clings to the sides/top, just leave for 4-12 hours then wipe off & it really does wipe off! It also comes with a big bag which you can put your oven shelves/grill pan/baking tins in & cover with the stuff & it gets them spotless too! It brought my shelves up like new!
One box is only good for one clean unfortunately so not economical if you want to clean your oven with it every week (why anyone would is beyond me!), but for the odd one off when it's really bad it does the job brilliantly at a fair price IMHO.

The washing powder in the bath trick does work, just be careful you don't scratch the bath with the oven bits. I lay a towel in the bottom. Also, make up a paste with washing up liquid and bicarb to smear on the glass window, leave it for a while and it is easier to scrape off.We must not, in trying to think about how we can make a big difference, ignore the small daily differences we can make which, over time, add up to big differences that we often cannot foresee.

Thanks for this tip, and the others.
I've been very embarrassed by the underneath of two of my cupboardsdue to splash stains, (which no-one else could see unless they had a good look lol) so I did a spot test using the paste. It worked so well that I ended up doing all the kitchen tiles
I'm reluctant to cook now, the kitchen looks so clean
