cleaning ovens!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi all
Just a quick word of warning.....
I just had to get someone out to replace the element in my oven, and he warned me against spraying heavy duty oven cleaners straight into the oven. Apparently, it can easily get back into the bit by the fan or element, and this can corrode them and you'll end up needing to replace them. He suggested using anything else that's a bit 'softer', or said that if I really must use the Mr Muscle-type things, then I should spray it onto a cloth and then use that to wipe the oven, as opposed to spraying liberally straight into the oven like I used to do.
Not sure how much truth is in this, but it sounded logical and I've followed his advice since.Lead me not into temptation - I can find it perfectly well all by myself0 -
I just discovered last week that you can take the glass out of the inside of the door, just by loosening a couple of screws - much easier to leave the glass to soak in the liquid of your choice when it's not vertical!
And put a layer of tin foil in the bottom of the oven, then chuck and replace once a month.

My oven of 12yrs broke down less than 2 weeks ago so with my new one I have been giving it a wipe over everytime I use it now.:j I was so ashamed of the last one, it was disgusting and took me hours to try and clean it.
I like the idea of putting tin foil at the bottom of oven, it will save on splashes;)became debt free December 060 -
About the foil thing - if you've got a fan oven, wrap the foil around a cheapie baking sheet (or downgrade your old rusty one and replace it with a lovely shiny new one, like I did, so you can start making cookies again... mmmm...), and put that in the base, otherwise the foil flicks about, which makes an annoying rustling noise and leaves bits of the base uncovered.
