british gas default removal

hi,

we moved into a property in 2006 and left in 2008 where British gas were our suppliers.I thought all the bills were paid but got a letter in 2012 stating the debt.

On my noodle report i see they started a default in December 2011, 3 years after the debt began.

As we are planning on a mortgage i obviously want this default of the file. I know it will disappear in December this year but not wanting to wait that long so would a statue barred be a good route as the debt is 8/9 years old?

Also why does it take them 3 years to mark it as default?

There are several threads about this going at the moment - you might want to ask one of the BGs to merge yours in as I think something might be going on with old BG alleged debts - seems lots are disputing there is a debt so you might be better off sharing information with the other posters?

iv had a read through the other thread and some interesting and helpful advice.

if i go statue barred will they remove the defaults or will the file say 'settled'?

If it over 6 years old it is statue barred. It would not show settled unless its settled. Either way if its over 6 years old it should not be there.
