Also went to Cape Town, 10 hour flight from London for us with BA and amazing wildlife, penguins on the beach, seals, big 5 on safari, wine route, table mountain but no rainforest.0

Thanks everyone for your suggestions!! I reckon we're going to Thailand! Loads of animal / nature trips to do, mangrove exploring, jungle walking tours, elephant and turtle conservation places etc etc. Fly from Manchester, maybe staying at Khao Lak :-)0

Ah, Paraty is lovely. The town, the little islands in the bay, the surrounding area.Let's settle this like gentlemen: armed with heavy sticks
On a rotating plate, with spikes like Flash Gordon
And you're Peter Duncan; I gave you fair warning0 -
I see you've made your mind up needanewjob, you'll have a great time! Don't forget to ask to see the elephants that paint, (although I think that comes with the elephant ride) you can actually buy their artwork too. Don't forget the tigers, you can go in the cage with them, I didn't like that very much, but everyone else appeared to
I've done all 3, but stayed in Playa Del Carmen in Mexico, & Bangkok, Chiang Mai, & Cha Am in Thailand, but nothing even comes close to Cost Rica! You could always stop over somewhere for a 2-3 nights to break your journey up, make it more exciting.0 -
It used to take me 9 hours from Heathrow to Nairobi, but from Manchester maybe it would take longer. I know it's East Africa but there's no rain forests there.
Maybe you need to read the post again, London to Accra is 6.5 hours.
Plenty of rainforest across that area, not a leisurely tourist oriented area, but opportunities for the adventurous. There's specialist holidays available, and plenty of wildlife, including the Gabon viper we saw driving through southern Ghana, as well as crocs, chimps, elephants etc.0
