My pothole moment happened about 5 years ago after a very severe frost. The hole itself was about 30 cm wide and probably 6cm deep and no doubt took out more than just me. Thankfully it was in a position that was unlikely to have been a hazard to cyclists (I was doing a 360 on the roundabout at the time).

This is why I report any significant potholes to FixmyStreet who then pass the information onto the council, the reports are logged and because they have been reported it may help some innocent person from being out of pocket due to negligence..

Except it can. Once a previous repair has started to break up, it can expand and develop VERY rapidly, especially with heavy morning frosts.

In which case it is reasonable that the local authority foresees such a risk... sadly this is not how they work and members of the public generally don't bother to complain & claim upon suffering damage. Which is why it is cheaper for them to not repair defects in the first place.

Firstly - good on you for reporting these :T

The problem is that some councils deliberately remain ignorant of reports from independent sites. Worcestershire County Council being one such culprit (though hardly surprising considering local press coverage of the ever bungling highways department).

If your local council does act on reports then I hope they continue to do so :)
