RAC told me I was ok to drive AND forged my signature on the call out job sheet!
Options
New to here but advice needed!
Long story short, I broke down last week and required RAC assistance. During my initial phone call I explained my BMW had broken down, steam coming from engine the temp gage was on red and most importantly I had my 4month old baby in the car with no feeds. I had to pass on an alternative contact number, my friend who was a passenger as my phone battery was running out.
Anyway after 45 minutes or so still no text or call to say a patrol was on route so I phoned back to query where they were to be told the job hadn't been listed as priority and job had not been dispatched, nor any note of babies age and no feeds. The operator kindly allocated the job and thankfully had someone with us within the hour.
However, the RAC vehicle was too small for us with the car needing to be towed and we would have to wait 3 hours for the larger truck. Now my baby is screaming so in a panic to get home.
The guy looked at the car said the was a pinprick hole in radiator tube, so did a temp repair filled it up with water and said as we were driving only 20miles or so he was happy for me to drive the car straight home and to the garage. As i was in no position to wait longer for a vehicle that should have been sent in the first place I got to my home town car conked out, smoke coming from engine and needed recovery again. My head gasket had blown!
Rightly so I called the RAC the next day to explain what had happened and I was not happy and that my garage required a copy of the job call out sheet. Finally got that emailed through, to see that after the short explanation of the fault there were some disclaimer statements ticked stating I knew of the risks and I chose to drove. Worse still at the bottom of the page is a signature box with my name above it and a very poor attempt at my signature in the box! Surely this is not acceptable?! My car has been wrote off due to me driving on the patrols advice , we were put at risk and the disclaimer has been fraudently signed.

Of course it's not acceptable, and may well be a sacking offence (it happened to someone who forged my signature to make an energy supplier switch once). However, I'm not sure what you want us to say that isn't obvious to you anyway: make a formal complaint to the RAC.

Complain and get the RAC man sacked. There is no way he should have forged a customers signature when he had the customer in front of him to sign.
Getting that liability form signed by the customer is their number one priority to avoid spurious damage claims.
They won't pay for a new engine though, they will say the head gasket was probably already gone after you ground to a halt first time, and that caused the temporary repair to fail, if it has indeed failed.I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

Thank you for the responses. I am following a complaints procedure with the RAC but they haven't really said much in the way of the patrolman being at fault even though I would have never have driven my car had I seen or been told those statements. I had my newborn son with me and i couldn't risk the financial burden. I'm confused with how I could take it further if needs be so was interested to see what others had to say.0

Take out a better breakdown package where they would have sent you home in a taxi and sorted the car for you?
Your claim that the head gasket blew the 2nd time, the question is are you sure it didnt fail the first time you cooked it?Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
I'd bet you'd already blown your head gasket before you called them out.0

I wasnt warned of anything that is my point of the post and I have had my signature forged on the job sheet/disclaimer stating I had been warned. I was told it was safe to drive. This is wrong. I would have waited for a family member to come and collect my baby and bring a feed had I known what could happen.
Maybe the head gasket had already gone I'm not a mechanic but surely that should have been noticed given the fact the guy in question specialises in fixing cars?
Not a very nice thing to suggest Strider I would use my baby and threatening the guy with what exactly?! The guy was very helpful and polite and there were no crossed words. What difference does it make if the car was a BMW or a Citroën? What picture are you suggesting is painted? If you haven't got helpfull comments keep them to yourself.0 -

You started it :rotfl: - if it didn't make a difference then why raise it as a BMW.
What are you expecting to happen outside of the RAC's Complaint Policy ?My car has been wrote off due to me driving on the patrols advice
Who exactly has 'wrote your car off' ? or is that your terminology for 'it's going to cost a bit to get it fixed' ?0 -

They would hardly say anything until their investigation is concluded for fear of opening themselves up to some liability claims.
But getting that form signed is their number one priority*, I can't believe he wouldn't have done so, so I'd sack him straight away, it is as bad as not quickly mumbling "terms and conditions apply" at the end of every advert on the radio
*and you thought getting the customer mobile was- that comes second.

But your bringing it up right now on this forum, with paragraphs of emotionally charged text about feelings and children and whatever else, as if we'll somehow give you magically different advice just because you mention kids.
It's something I've lost my patience with after some silly cow tried to ram my car off the road whilst overtaking and THEN used her children as an excuse...........
I wish people would just present the relevent facts and stop trying to manipulate opinions for the sympathy vote.“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”
