In money news I stopped posting my debt tracker when I stopped work but I just want to mention that our total debts have dropped from £122,852.54 to £17,891.99 or by £104,960.55 since I started this diary in January 2017.
I have also asked to change the monthly payment down to £100 a month (interest is £18.49 a month) so a trickle of £81.50 off the capital plus my Tilly Tidies paid over once a month will be the limit for a while
Fantastic! Can I check with you though, if your payment now is £100 a month at 1.24% pa, £18.49 interest sounds really high?

Oh ... I just did a really rough calculation ... :o:o:o its right, isn't it :rotfl: sorry! I thought I'd leave this in, in the interests of full disclosure of what a clot I am :rotfl:

Interesting about the food and housewares purchases as well!

  • Suffolk lass thanks for the additional information about lye/caustic soda.

The finance update and your comments I found interesting and made me stop and consider our plans.

  • In other news our Monday Ferry has been cancelled and the Ferry Operator has moved us to a crossing two hours earlier - thanks guys, that means leaving four hours earlier than planned to allow for Monday morning rush hour and crossing the Dartford River Xing - so we have booked a guest house a bit last minute.

We will have to hope our cat feeders are OK with that!

Yes, we have a WhatsApp group called the name of our cat so if Son decides he doesn't want to drive over here, neighbour can cover. What lovely people. It is only a short trip, again in the car, but got to go and see our friends and we will be away again the following week for my Mother's big birthday celebrations in Scotland. I must phone my Sis today on that count and see if she wants any wine for the party (one of the big things that is a better price en France).

Other than that we have a dump run planned (we know how to live!), lots of watering, and I must away now (shortly) and get the last of the washing out - it looks as though it will be a lovely day.

I already checked the French fuel prices and for the suggested difference in diesel price I filled up here, which should see us to about Nantes or nearly to Poitiers, if I take it easy. No need to change any cash as I still have some of my February stash I "hedged" in anticipation of our big holiday (I did not pay any of the hotel bill in advance this year so both my CCs are a bit bigger than I would hope this month and next).

Food will be mostly clearing up salad today, and I must prep the pears I was given by a neighbour - to bottle some (as my freezer space seems to be full of courgettes!).

  • How frustrating about the changes made to your booking. I bet you haven't been offered any compensation for the inconvenience nor the extra costs you have incurred.

Absolutely not - and if I wanted to change it, I would incur a fee! We normally use the operator out of Harwich (much closer) and this is the first short crossing we have done for years - it may just be the last too...

Well we are back and we had a lovely time. We have returned with more stuff than we left with as our friends pressed us to take a large wooden chest (think blanket box) and so we did - and then we filled it up with some stuff from the Brocante and five (yes that is 5) crystal chandeliers from which to make Christmas gifts - in this way a very dated possession or two belonging to a much loved deceased relative, can be shared between her family members. I have been washing crystals and de-coupling them from the chandeliers. Where is my jewellery wire and my bag of ribbons...
