Thoroughly agree. I just picked up some euros today for my French trip in a few weeks time with a friend, weekend before Brexit and rate is bad but I am guessing the closer to Tuesdays vote we get the worse the rate will be. I don't think there will be a deal so a delay is most likely outcome. Not prepared at all for it but we will cope as luckily not reliant on medicines and not on breadline. I think the people who will struggle most are those who are finding money tight. Not sure how many on here voted leave but wonder if they realised at the time how difficult this would be to reach an agreement.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free Wannabe, Budgeting and Banking and Savings and Investment boards. Fol de rol, I'm not a troll.
Paying in cheques, I found out recently that I can pay them in from my mobile, using the Hallyfax bank app. You just use the phone to take a photo, it credits and you keep the hard copy cheque (in case there is a problem). V useful as I rarely go near physical branch. My mortgage free diary: https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/6498069/whoops-here-comes-the-cheese

Hi Suffolk Lass,
Pleased to see you have started a little money laundering ( as Mr Mee calls my efforts to circulate savings around the regular savers :rotfl:). I have been looking at TSB because Tesco have just announced they are dropping their interest rate on the current account from 3% to 1% in June. We have £12 k to find a new home for. I think you can actually have 3 TSB accounts, 1 each and a joint account, and I think 5% payable on £1500 each + regular savers.
Don't get me started on the B word.....the amount of money we have wasted on this fiasco, with worse to come. And such a distraction from some of the real problems in this Country. That is all
I haven't been stocking up apart from things that I normally stock up on because they are cheap...might need to think about this.1 -

Barclays do the same so you can just take a photo of the cheque using the app. Just as well as we don't have any branches near us as they have closed them all down. I feel sorry for those who do not use smart phone apps or the internet as it must be a real pain to go into the city just to pay in a cheque.Suffolk_lass wrote: »You see, I told myself I would not comment on any of this but I have just corrected someone on the March GC. It is a provocative subject and so divisive. I think you are safe commenting on your own diary though. I cannot understand why people get upset about people disagreeing with them. Almost 50% of us wanted to remain so it is a safe bet we are not all going to agree on it. Difficult to avoid the B word at the moment too.Hi Suffolk Lass,

We have 2 Tescos too. I stopped the money go round of high interest current accounts a few years back when they all started to impose a lot of conditions like direct debits etc and reducing balances they would pay interest on. My Tescos don't need regular income or direct debits as I have had them years but only 2 of them so just need to find a home for £6k. Will probably move to the Tesco internet saver as that pays 1.45%.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free Wannabe, Budgeting and Banking and Savings and Investment boards. Yes TSB only need you to pay in £500 a month to get 5% on up to £1500 (no dd obligations). I am sure you are right re 3 accounts. The easy saver pays a bonus after the first year (0.3+0.2 bonus). So does the eSavings account (0.3+0.25 bonus). The regular saver is only 2% (HSBC is 5%). The 2-year fixed rate ISA pays 1.7% at TSB.
Re stocking up, my larder is fuller than normal (happy to live on tins and dry goods if needed) and I grow lots but I have added some powdered skimmed milk and frozen a few blocks of butter as I believe we use lots of imported milk to make British butter and cheese. It could just be panic buying that creates the shortages - no organic milk the last 3 visits to my local Morries...enthusiasticsaver wrote: »Barclays do the same so you can just take a photo of the cheque using the app. Just as well as we don't have any branches near us as they have closed them all down. I don't use Smart phone apps - very happy with my Mac Book and old travelling laptop, and the new bank is less than 5 miles from here. See my bit above re TSB rates, you could do three accounts and the rest in a 2 year ISA for better than that Tesco Internet saver!
I really fear for us if we leave with no deal. We (UK) stepped away from the negotiations in EU after the referendum, taking no further part in working out the new regulations, directives and trade agreements. And of course, the free trade deal between the EU and Japan sits primarily behind the decisions that Nissan and Honda have made and Toyota, (Ford and BMW) are threatening. Had we been in the room, our economic considerations (over 100,000 UK jobs) would have been taken into consideration. We were not, so they were not. It is an indirect consequence of the referendum, whatever happens about any deals. The December announcement that a reduction in vehicle emissions of 30% by 2030 has similarly been negotiated without our influence, or taking our economic impact into account.Save £12k in 2025 #2 I am at £4863.32 out of £6000 after May (81.05%)

Ho hum! I received a tax code revision notice for this year and next that projects the removal of over £3k of my personal tax allowance, that it says I have been previously notified that I have underpaid (no I haven't). A couple of quick calls to the Pay section (who gave me the right number) and the tax department and all is clear. My employer attempted to correct the projected overpayment of tax for this financial year - issuing me with a P45 I am essentially 2 months short of the planned and profiled tax - so they refunded a lump. In the meantime my pension provider calculated a straight month without taking this into consideration. I knew I had been overpaid as the money hitting my account was IRO my full time full month pay.
Dan at the Tax Office was utterly charming and fully understood that I did not want to reduce my income in the next Tax year by carrying the overpayment forward, so we agreed it will be recovered from my March Pension, that will be paid on the last day of the current Tax Year. I will check when I return from my back-of-beyond trip and contact them to make a manual payment if plan A fails. Hopefully all sorted.Save £12k in 2025 #2 I am at £4863.32 out of £6000 after May (81.05%)

There are always issues with tax after retiring. Both DH and I got refunds as I left in December and he left in October. The tax calculations assume you work a full year. Your employer would have done better to leave the tax alone and just issued your final salary and then you ring up for a refund. We got ours within a week/ten days.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free Wannabe, Budgeting and Banking and Savings and Investment boards. Obviously though that assumes your pension provider has your P45 so they can put you on the correct tax code immediately.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free Wannabe, Budgeting and Banking and Savings and Investment boards.
