I think I am going to try for an Ultra Uber Frugal February (shamelessly copying Busy Mee1). I am going to use up some stores, shop from lists and minimise unnecessary spending in February. I will track as I go.

I have ordered some seeds and picked up a couple of packs of onion sets and seed potatoes. We do regularly grow our own so this isn't a B****t thing. I have to find a way to reduce the creeping woodsorrel bindweed (glyphosate) and ground elder (careful manual removal) - not looking forward to this. Sadly two of these were introduced in a ton of supposedly heat-treated compost I bought a few years ago. The bindweed has always been here and when they say deep rooted, they mean it. I have some 60-70cm high raised beds where it has grown in from underneath!

That's a really useful link to creeping woodsorrel, thanks for that :)

Constant drizzle here this morning so not inclined to go for a walk or do any meaningful gardening. I am going to an auction later, mostly for interest but there were one or two things I might bid on if there is little other interest. I might have to go into JL afterwards to see what is on offer as I have a gift card to use at some point.

So much for my planned day! All the check system alarm things on the car went off as I set off for the auction. I drove about three miles then thought better of getting stuck 20 miles away and turned round and drove to the car dealership that services my car. They fitted me in while I waited, but it took nearly 3 hours. The underlying cause was the battery but not the alternator.

They replaced it but obviously do not know the trick about taking out the main fuse before disconnecting the battery as they wiped everything. I will look again in the morning with the manual but I could access nothing. Every telephone, map saved in the sat nav and all the radio and music HDD were MIA. Hmm. I have been happier! I am dog walking tomorrow, and doing a hand-sewn repair to DS's shorts (No, he isn't a postman, yes he wears them all year round). It will be Wednesday before I go to JL now :(

While I was waiting for the car I asked the Service man to explain the options for a service pack they had emailed me. Turns out I am not mad after all. They were the same (hence I was struggling to understand what the difference was between them and there was none). I need to spend over £1000 on my car - an inaccessible dust cover has split and is heavy on labour, plus the front brakes and front tyres need replacing (will do this before we go to the Highlands in April) and I have a big service scheduled for July I am expecting that lot to cost about £1200 so will spread it out a bit. Still thinking about whether I will go for the service pack - it is either a pay up front or monthly DD (0%) that fixes the price of all the labour and consumables at today's cost. I know I have pollen, coolant, diesel and fuel filters, oil things and so on in prospect so it is hedging whether Brexit will increase them again

Boo to car troubles Suffolk Lass and double boo to losing all your data. We have never had one of the service plans. We usually just use the main dealer until the car is out of warranty and then switch to someone local and cheaper to do the service/MOT.

I have a nephew who wears shorts all year round too
