2023: the year I get to buy a car5

Our replacement extractor hood is due to be delivered this morning and in anticipation of its earliest delivery time I need to get a wiggle on. I should at least be dressed, I think! - More laterSave £12k in 2025 #2 I am at £4863.32 out of £6000 after May (81.05%)

I forced myself to get up at 06.30 this morning (very late night for me) so that I was poised to act if the delivery was imminent (sound of thumbs twiddling!) - there is no mention of them taking the damaged one away in any of the comms but I'm not letting them leave without it.
And in money saving news I have a reply from the BS to my secure message and they are going to transfer the redemption amount to clear our mortgage - maybe today, from the bond.
I will need to pull the rest back to clear our credit card in time for next month's bill (it statements on the 16th and takes the money on the 10th) which included the e-bikes that are on order. These are the thing we are doing with the money from DMiL's estate to mark her passing. We have topped up our occupational pensions with the actual money over the last 8 months. All part of funding the gap between stopping work and the start of state pensions.
In other kitchen refresh news I have finished one door and sorted out the replacement handle and it will definitely improve the light in the kitchen (bright white eggshell for the wall cupboards). Two more are nearly done and I must finish them before starting another, to stop my painting taking over!

The cupboard doors sound like they'll be lovely and make the kitchen much brighter
Mortgage paying off sounds very exciting!Mortgage free 16/06/2023! £132,500 cleared in 11 years, 3 months and 7 days

Well I'm not quite sure if we have finished with the mortgage. They have taken the money but the account is showing minus £94.75. I think this might be the admin fee of £95 they add when you pay off your mortgage (and 25p less interest because it is calculated daily) but I'm a little surprised the account is not showing as closed. I will leave the direct debit in place and await the letter for the moment. I think I will leave the balance of the bond in the matured accounts for a week or two too - I need it to pay down the credit card that has got our e-bikes on it that we have ordered but that is on the 10th November.
I'm hoping the £95 covers closing the account, cancelling the direct debit, removing the claim on the property that is with the Land Registry and returning the deeds (I know they are electronic but as ours is a 17th century house I am hoping they have them as they might look good framed. I might have to message them about that last bit.Save £12k in 2025 #2 I am at £4863.32 out of £6000 after May (81.05%)

Ugh, how frustrating that the account hasn't been closed/you don't know what's happening!
The deeds sound like they'll be lovely on the wall - how exciting! Definitely get in touch - can just imagine some entry-level staff member just chucking them in the bin ('Oh, this has been paid off, we don't need these any more...'). - Student Loan gone
Swagbucks, Mingle, GiffGaff, Prolific, Qmee & Quidco; thank you MSE every little bit helps7 -
Great that the mortgage is gone completely and you will love the e bikes you have treated yourself to. We love ours and in a hilly county like Cornwall they get a lot of use. My car hardly gets used unless I am going a fair old distance or the weather is bad. I can even pick up bits of shopping on my e bike using the panniers.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free Wannabe, Budgeting and Banking and Savings and Investment boards. Well I have logged in this morning and it tells me I don't have a mortgage account. I plan to call them this morning if I can get an answer. Our experience is a lot of nice but dim people we have spoken to over the years. One of the reasons I started using their secure message interface is because I was getting different answers every time I spoke to a different person. I was able to reference answers in writing last time they were going to change something financial to be less than we were promised.Save £12k in 2025 #2 I am at £4863.32 out of £6000 after May (81.05%)

Oof, SL, I'm glad you're checking - nice but dim definitely sums up a lot of my experiences too. Hope all's well with those deeds.
