Sorry to hear that SL and I know that sometimes when life is hard it is difficult to put into words. In my experience worries do eventually resolve, but it is horrible when you are in the midst of it. Sending big hugs x

Right. Time to get back into it I think. DS was not kept on by the Temporary Christmas people he worked for but they wanted him, they just weren't allowed to take anyone on permanently. The good news is that the people at his other place were so pleased to have him back that he is feeling more positive about it all.

Over here I am working our way through meat and fruit from the freezer as I have suggested we might take another half lamb from the local friend who rears them. They were still in the field munching on grass on Tuesday so not quite yet. I keep finding another bag of prepped courgettes - last year's crop that keeps on giving. Just enough for a batch of soup.

Having read the article in The Times last Saturday about weight loss we have each set a target to lose 2 stones 5 pounds and started this week. I had not realised how much naughty stuff had crept back into my diet, with about 6lbs sticking around after Christmas. I do just wish it was a tiny bit more Spring-like as it is easier to give up starchy things then.

We have some big spends coming up:

The dishwasher has a heating error - this is either the heating element of a heating assembly replacement. I could not work out which so have called in an expert who will get back to me today with approximate costs to repair

The boiler is not firing for Central Heating. It works fine for hot water. It seems the Honeywell thermostat might be the problem - man coming to try replacing it on Saturday

DH's Harley needs a major preventive job to be done. We are taking it to the nearest specialist place to get it looked at and done (it will be around £1k-£1.1k) - must be done though as I booked his Ferry to go to Sweden in late May for an international rally (another expense)

I need us to get the foundations for my new Greenhouse done so we can erect it - it involves borrowing some local labour and a neighbour's concrete mixer. I will also order the additional stuff to rectify and top up the new parking area and we have a few paving slabs to lay. The order is likely to be over £250 for the various building elements and aggregates.

Realistically I have postponed big trip as we have not done enough planning, and I am not sure when my workshop will happen yet.

Lots of gardening to do but too wet to do most. And my bug zapper seems to have stopped working after giving me the most enormous electric shock. It is related as I use it as gently bottom heat to help germinate seeds on the kitchen windowsill.

Money-wise, ticking along with a few hundred lurking in current accounts - but the new energy supplier will raid mine on Monday, before I get "paid" and still 2 DD due in the other account.

The next two months are Council Tax holidays and I am tempted to just push them to the mortgage. All the regular savers at 5% finished with their last payment this month so just the interest to be added in February now. Very tempted to "spend" them on the mortgage too but that isn't the plan really.

We have also booked a ferry each way for an August September (car) road trip too that will involve five Countries minimum. Something to look forward to, we can sort accommodation out a bit later

And today I am streaming. First lurgy of the winter. Very sore throat and both cold and throat symptoms. Going back to bed as DH can accept delivery of the (extortionate) fridge-freezer replacement shelves. Also the dishwasher heating assembly (£90 with next day delivery). Off to get another hot water bottle and find paracetamol to control temperature. Damn. Might have to duck out of the Burns night supper we are at tomorrow. DH will still go as it is at someone's house. :(
