Whats the cheapest/best way to invest in VLS? Im thinking halifax self select isa at the moment,,tnx
Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..

i've had some ISA transfers take a few months. this was for transferring in specie (i.e. transferring the investments held, not just cash). though it's possible this is improving - i think some providers were supposed to be signing up to some new automated system for transfers?

however, it's not a lot of hassle if you can be phlegmatic, and take the attitude that it will arrive when it arrives. you could keep hassling both providers every week - which might or might not speed up the process - but why bother.

I would definitely recommend just leaving them to it. Mistakes will likely be made and hold ups will occur. Just get on with your life while they get on with it.

that depends on how much you want to invest, and how often you want to add to the investment (e.g. just a lump sum, or invest more monthly). halifax will be the best answer for some people.

I've just made an account with iWeb to do this. £5 per trade.

Thanks for that sounds great! Is it difficult to change because jdw2000 said it takes weeks/months and is a lot of hassle?
jdw2000 is referring to a change of platform taking weeks and causing hassle.

"Moving" from Fidelity Funds Network to Cavendish Funds Network is not a change of platform, it's just a change of agency. Cavendish become your agent/advisor (although they won't give you advice). Your funds remain unchanged on Fidelity's platform. They are not transferred or re-registered. You are not out of the market at any time.

You will use the same userID and password as you do now for Fidelity. You can log in to your account through Fidelity's home page or through Cavendish's home page, although the interface is a little different.

The major difference is you will pay less.

All you have to do is fill in 2 forms (see link below) and post to Cavendish Online. It doesn't take long to make this switch.

Thanks for that so its really quite straightforward and will save a bit of money i charges. My partner and son also have accounts with Fidelity so if we all change to Cavendish it will be worth a bit more to us all!

I know there are other platforms that are even cheaper than Cavendish but I think it will be a lot more hassle and this way as you said we still remain in the market, keep our fund selection and carry on as usual using eith the Fidelity or Cavendish sites to login!

Thanks again Vortigern for this info, much appreciated.

I've just gone the comparefundplatforms route because I am also with Fidelity. At the moment I have about £45K in my ISA account and iweb is the cheapest. I am about to add £15,240 before the end of the tax year and iweb would be even cheaper and if I add £20K in the new tax year then iweb will be by far the cheapest platform!

If you want to stay on the Fidelity platform then Cavendish are one of the next cheapest funds to save the hassle of changing platforms and being out of the market (but iweb are quite a lot cheaper)!

Is iweb any good, what are peoples views/experiences with this platform?
  • I have an Iweb ISA account and have experienced no problems so far. The website is not as slick and professional as others but I don't visit it very often. Customer service seems to work okay but I have only contacted them once.

I must also admit I only trade in April when I fill up my ISA allowance for the year. It is cheap and basic but that is all I need as an infrequent trader.

With regards to being out of the market whilst changing platforms: I am switching my Trading Account from TD to Halifax and the funds will be invested the whole time.

You don't necessarily need to liquidate your assets when you switch platform. As long as the new platform deal in the same funds as the old one then you should be fine.

Does anybody know if they are available at Hargreaves Lansdown?

Sorry if this has been answered already - I'm late to the party.

HL do offer L&G Multi Index Funds - I have one in my S&S ISA with HL. However, you have to phone HL and ask them for it. It's not available online.
