Three - Problems?
I purchased a 3 PAYG sim as a back up for my normal mobile this morning and to try out their signal in our area with the possibility of switching my main number to them. Reason? Good deal for overseas calls if on contract and 6- month expiry of credit on PAYG.
Got home. No signal. Waited an hour. No signal. Rang 3 who told me it could take 2 hours to get activated.
Another hour and I got a text telling me to keep my phone on while they connect me to 3. It will take about 30 minutes.
An hour later the same message was repeated.
Waited just over another 2.75 hours and rang 3 customer services. They told me it was still showing as not activated and it could be because my handset was locked (it isn't) or some other obscure reason I couldn't understand. Mobile handset is Lumia 820 bought 2015 and previously run on O2 and Tesco.
Will be returning sim to the 3 shop tomorrow. If they can't get the set up right, what hope do I have for the actual ongoing service?

Three sims have always shown signal for me as soon as they go into the phone.
The activation is usually done in minutes and and applies to calls rather than signal.
Is your phone definitely unlocked? O2 and Tesco are the same network, if the phone was locked to o2 it would also work on Tesco.
You need to try an EE, Vodafone or Three sim you know is working to check for being unlocked.====0 -

How can you have no signal yet get text messages?
That question is best posed to 3 Mobile ! Presumably their network recognised the sim/number and was able to text me but failed to send the 2 set up text messages that activated the sim so I could use it..
However, I went into the store today to return the sim and when we switched off and then on again, the sim sprang into life. It certainly didn't when I tried that at 10.30 last night.
The manager admitteded that yesterday they had a number of sims that did not activate for several hours and that was unusual, So, obviously, they were having problems.
Now to see just how good the coverage is, although it seems down on O2 in my location.0
