Let me know if you find a good fan, I've done a little bit of research but I'm a bit confused. Lots of praise for the Dyson one but it's waaaaaay too expensive for me and someone at work bought one and said it wasn't that good.

I've been looking online at tower fans - at the moment a Dimplex model is looking good (c.£52) but will carry on and let you know......:D

  • Wonderful! A very empowering way to think about debt and mindful spending!

What we spend today in excess of our income, we borrow from our future self.

I did some sums the other week and figured out that saving £200 per month for 1 year equated to 1 year of early retirement if invested today.

Good to have you back posting regularly!

Thank you! It is good to be back and feeling my way back to the MSE mindset. Your example about retirement income is very thought-provoking, I will do some calculations of my own to help with adjusting my priorities!

Thank you! I will do the same :)
  • The weekend went really well. Did a mini spring clean on Saturday (the kind where everything is sparkling clean but the clutter has been shoved out of sight and out of mind) and had a really lovely lunch for my mum on Sunday.
I'm really loving the minimalist feel of the flat at the moment but know I've got to tackle the hastily shoved-away clutter soon. My goal to get through the kitchen and living room this weekend (I'm sure there are some unused kitchen gadgets lurking at the back of cupboards that can be sold or donated) and then to spend the two following weekends on an epic wardrobe clear out for both of us. I've heard that there are organisational apps out there that are like Cher's wardrobe in Clueless so I'm going to investigate to find a free and user-friendly version. That would be fulfilling my teenage wardrobe dreams!

Also, have emailed YNAB to see about extending the free trial period. If not possible, I will have to cancel and restart again in a couple of months.

There was a delay with my season ticket loan too (new online system for these kind of things, which is 1000 times more inefficient than the old system) but I should be receiving it by the 15th Feb. Work are quite blase about this (I guess they think what I miss now, I'll be making up for with extra weeks at the end ... ) but I hadn't budgeted to be paying "extra" travel expenses this month so I need to jiggle things around to make sure it all works.
  • Season tkts can be a pain . I used to aim for getting my renewed for mid November when I was in London . It meant that the yearly increase was a year behind . My last season ticket wouldn't work at Richmond station when it should've . I had to explain / be polite to bus drivers and train guards at south worst trains that it wasn't my fault . As I was on the platform every morning before the ticket office was opened , I had to find an actual tube station which still had a ticket office that wasn't closed . I used to go to bank station , but ended up going to Blackfriars . But , as you say Georgina the expiry date is pushed back a little further which kinda helps :)
  • It is a pain AC. I think I'll have to change my Oyster card when I've got a 1st generation one which apparently doesn't have all the bells and whistles of the new ones. Just thinking about it, my Oyster card must be 15 years old  I'm quite impressed I managed to hold on to it for so long!

I'm pretty annoyed about the season ticket loan to be honest. I submitted all the paperwork according to the new protocol at the beginning of January with the promise that it would be paid in 2 weeks time (which would have been 10 - 14 days ahead of the expiry of my old one). Instead, they have been late with processing it and I'm going to have to find £100 in the budget to cover 2 weeks of travel. Even though it pushes the renewal date back by 2 weeks in 2020, I would rather have that money in my budget now!
I suppose that is what the "things I forgot to budget for" category on YNAB is for :o
  • Yeah, it's frustrating . In that last company I worked for , it has a very backward draconian system . I had to give completed form to personnel to sign . Then when they could be bothered , give the form to accounts . Only 1 person in accounts did this . Then they had to find a director to authorise . I made sure I put the form in about a week before I needed it . Your place sounds just as " professional ":rotfl:
Sorry to hear of the massive inconvenience they have caused ..
  • Flying update today! YNAB have extended my free trial for another 2 months - really happy to be able to keep using it and have an opportunity to save up for the 1year subscription :D

That's great news. I think they want to help people with finances, but do have to eat themselves so have to charge. I think extending the trial is their way of helping out a bit.

It's really decent of them, I'm so appreciative and it makes me more likely to get the paid version :)
