    Yay to the refund!

Every day I hope someone will send me a letter telling me they owe me money, but it never happens:rotfl:

But in good news! Got a letter saying HMRC owe me money for overpaid tax, not much but far better than the other way round! I've put through the claim online so should be receiving that either next week or just after the bank holiday weekend.

Once, many many moons ago, I got a letter from the HMRC with a cheque for over paid tax. They taxed me on my rebate though :rotfl:

I have to laugh about it now.

Still, these days, like boxofpaws says, I'd love for a letter telling me I'm owed money , hell I'd not mind if it was taxed a bit :rotfl::rotfl:

  • I usually get letters from HMRC saying that I've underpaid slightly with a notification of tax code change, so I'm delighted that it has gone the other way for once :)
Received the money in my bank account today, really impressed with how quick and painless the whole process was! I had to register to the HMRC website which was a little bit of a faff but nice and easy from there on. What I really like is that I can view all my NI contributions and see how many years I need to be able to claim a state pension, very useful to have this all in one place! I had to get hold of a NI statement a few years ago and it was much more of a pain than this.
So ... big thumbs up to HMRC from me today! :)
  • Quick update on my pension. Inspired by EnthusiasticSaver's comments a few pages back, I decided to increase the amount I contribute to my company pension scheme every month. My payslip for August has already been generated (even though it is a few days until payday) and my contributions have gone up by £35 a month. I've taken this out of my miscellaneous spending category in the budget, better going towards my pension than on random treats of nail varnish, coffee and prosecco!
  • Final update for now! (They are all different topics so I wanted to break them down a bit)
The fridge! What dramas! Three engineers were booked, I've arranged to be at home on three different days and three engineers failed to show up with three dubious excuses ("I was on my way but then decided I had to go to hospital" ; "I thought the appointment was for next week" and "I outside the carpark, didn't realise I'd have to pay and I can't find a street parking space so I'm going to cancel this job") ... my landlady has now booked for a visit from the manufacturer which I think is much better because I'm sure that we need a new thermostat & they should hopefully have it with them?
Anyway, engineer will be visiting tomorrow *fingers crossed* and my landlady has offered to come and wait in the flat for them.

I'm itching to do a big shop and a batch cook so that I've got meals prepped for next week, so I do hope that it is sorted tomorrow. I don't have high hopes though!
  • Oh! I'm such a liar, I did have another thing I wanted to update about :)

Has anyone tried Beauty Pie cosmetics/skincare? I read about them the other day & intrigued by their premise and prices. I am nearly out of foundation, although I've got a SpaceNK voucher I can use for this purchase, I'd love to know if the Beauty Pie foundation is actually any good. One of my friends has a subscription so I asked her to order me a couple of the sample packs of foundation to try out ... would be great if it is a good substitute, £6 instead of £35 is a no brainer!

No to the Beauty Pie thing, be interested to know how you get on. SpaceNK sent me a £5 off 'we miss you' voucher today. Resistance is futile but essential.

Well done on increasing pension contribution. Your future self will thank you for it. Most tax efficient way of saving and getting free money from HMRC and sometimes your employer if they increase their contribution along with you.

I'll let you know how I get on with the samples! I read lots of reviews of Beauty Pie over the weekend, quite mixed opinions so I'll have to try for myself. I would LOVE to be able to get by with a £5 foundation though :)

Thank you! :) My employer is only matching up to 3% for now, but next year I'll move into the next age band on the scheme and they'll match up to 5%. I'll be increasing my contributions again accordingly!
