We have been discussing our sofas today. They are 13 years old and a little shabby in a certain light. But they fit nicely in our room and are quite comfy and big and they wipe clean. Besides which, I can never picture how a sofa in a shop would look in my house so I think we will have these ones until they atually fall apart.

I swore I would never do surveys but you seems to do so well at them...

I thought it was just me with a quiet PA, I have had nothing all week - and I run visual ping so its not that I miss the alerts.
  • Good stuff! Monday will show the final of my payments - can't wait!
Oh wow, the last payment ever?! Congratulations! _party_

Prolific Academic is the best site in terms of rewards and the surveys are a lot shorter (and more interesting!) than on other sites. I'm aiming to make £20 a week from them but not sure if I'll hit target this week, I've only got £4 pending.

Our sofa is an old G Plan one from the 70s, it's done the rounds from my husband's parents to his cousin's first house and then to us. It has already broken once but we managed to get it repaired quite cheaply, we were reluctant to buy a new one from costs and because this one fits really well with the rest of our G Plan furniture. The one we've got our eyes on is also G Plan but from their retro range, so new made but with a vintage look. It is also small enough to fit in our flat ... the problem we found with modern sofas is that they are all so wide. Also thinking that down the line when we (hopefully) move somewhere bigger and need more furniture, we can get more items from this range.

Thanks Hidden! I did except I managed to get sunburnt in a really odd way (I missed a tiny sliver of skin at the top of my tshirt line, so I've got an attractive bright red necklace effect going on!). Hope you've had a good one too :)

I picked up a couple of surveys last week but none of the big bucks ones. Oddly enough, I've had two emails asking me to complete surveys on the site but by the time I click through they are closed. I know it is summer holidays but I'm hoping it will pick up a bit!
  • Over the weekend I realised that I often post some of my MSE tips on other threads but don't ever collect them here, so I've decided to make a little bit more effort to update my own diary :)

I really love expensive perfume. It makes me feel so much better to have a spritz of a gorgeous smelling perfume, even when I'm wearing old tracksuit bottoms and haven't bothered to put make up on. The problem with expensive perfume as a pick-me-up is that it is, well, expensive. I always ask for perfume (or vouchers) for Christmas and my birthday, I keep an eye out for sales and I always buy it having clicked through a cash back site but the biggest MSE thing I've started doing is buying samples.

I don't drown myself in perfume so I can usually get at least a week, sometimes two, from a sample size bottle. They are either free or cheap (£3.50 is the most I've paid, that was for a sample of a perfume that usually costs £190). Some perfume houses will deduct the cost of the samples from a later purchase of a full size bottle and whenever I'm buying something from a shop like SpaceNK, I'll ask if they can give me samples for a particular brand. They are perfect for taking on holiday, no fears about losing a full bottle at airport security or leaving it behind in the hotel bathroom.

I've got a fancy box on my dressing table with all my perfume samples. I love being able to dip into it and try something new that will lift my mood when I'm feeling a bit down, or when it is a really special occasion and I want to wear something new.

I know, this isn't a "proper" MSE style tip but it is a way that I continue to enjoy something from my old lifestyle without breaking the bank.

I use the free perfume sample bottles too GC. I won't try a new perfume without using the sample bottle for a week and they are great for taking on holiday.

  • Good plan with the perfumes, I'm not s huge perfume user, but I do have 1 I particularly like, will try and get a sample bottle for taking away with me.

Also: £20 a week from PA wow, I'm nearly at £20 after 3weeks and thought I was doing well.
I agree, much more interesting surveys. 1 they kept emailing me about last week needed a microphone which I didn't have access to at the time, so had to pass, this morning's survey paid £1.65 and went from pending to available almost instantly.
