Barclaycard refused my application???

Funnily enough OP I'm the opposite to you-I've got a credit card with Barclaycard but HSBC have refused me twice now for their current account.
I had financial difficulties in my late teens/early 20s and whilst it's getting on for nine years ago now I'm still 'black-listed' by HSBC.
I can understand why they'd be reluctant to have me as a customer again however. It's not your credit score that counts, it's your credit history. Any replies are my own personal opinion and not a representation of my employer.0 -
No data protection issues here as the data are being held and used for a valid reason.
Not lending money to someone who walked off with your cash in the past seems very sensible to me.0 -
Speaking from expereince having had a barclaycard before when i was younger and defaulted - 4 years agoi applied for their intial card and got accepted with a £500.00 limit - a year later i applied for their platinum card started on a low limit and then got increases as i kept my account in good standing.
I would check your credit file to see if there is any thing up with that.0 -
your turned down... go for another one.0

So basically if you default with Barclays that's it forever?

It appears to vary. You are not the first person to post on here regarding this problem which appears to be happening. Yet others have defaulted Barclaycards and have managed to open Barclays current accounts and obtain Barclaycards (including a friend of mine).
One thought. Is there any possibility that your old Barclaycard account was not actually defaulted but still remains open?
The best thing you can do is to forget about Barclaycard and apply elsewhere.0 -
But in your opening post you recognised the distinction between prime and subprime lenders, so it's hardly a surprise that you can quote Capital One as accepting you but Barclaycard not doing so, as they'll have entirely different approaches to risk profiling (among other differences, such as APRs and benefits).
If you're going to continue to seek prime cards, chances are it'll be worth steering clear of those that you defaulted....
TBH only had a barclaycard and capital one defaulted and as I said was over a decade ago.
We do now have a couple of prime cards all up to date, but I know to avoid Barclaycard in future. TBH in some ways at least this was a non application from them rather than a decline, so at least that part is fair of them.
