If it makes you feel any better ALIBOBSY, i am on the barclay's blacklist too.I came into this world with nothing and I'm gonna leave with nothing.0

Most banks seem to accept you can have problems then situations can and do change and improve. If they all used the above criteria a vast number of people would be unable to get credit again ever.
If you're going to continue to seek prime cards, chances are it'll be worth steering clear of those that you defaulted....0 -
There seems to be a similar thread here.A cunning plan, Baldrick? Whatever it was, it's got to be better than pretending to be mad; after all, who'd notice another mad person around here?.......Edmund Blackadder.0

I had a Barclaycard in 1995-1997 which I defaulted on (I was a poor student), and I ended up clearing it a few years later (it wasn't a massive balance, I can't remember if it went to debt collectors). I bank with Barclays, have done since 2002, and I was given a Barclaycard initial last year. It may help if you bank with them??0

Hmm well its an interesting one and I suspect means some banks are cutting off their nose to spite their face.
Still at least they rejected the application to avoid it affecting my credit file and gave me a reason lol.
Will avoid them in the future, their loss

If you loaned some money to someone you knew and they didn't pay it back when agreed and you had to go as far as getting debt collectors to get the money back. Would you ever lend money to that person again?.
Not wanting to do business with people who have previously defaulted with them seems a sensible policy to have. Someone who has had financial trouble in the past is going to be more likely to again than someone who has never been in financial trouble.0 -
I defaulted on a barclaycard in 2009 and was given another card in 2015. If I apply for a second card I get a no with you already have a card and you broke terms and conditions on a previous card. Who knows how this works.0

I hate to confess it but in 1983 I defaulted on my Barclaycard for £1500 and even had a county court summons taken out against me for the debt. I eventually cleared the debt and applied for a BC in 1995 and was given one of the top cards. Today I now hold 4 of their cards and some obtained by migration. My point is by having problems in the past has never stopped me getting another card from them.0

It's an interesting one. Taken to extremes, you could default at age 18, and then apply for a card 60 years later and it seems the chumps at AMEX and Barclaycard will reject you. I suspect their keeping personal financial records for such a length of time may be in breach of DP regulations, but then, it begs the question, what is a reasonable length of time to keep such records? OP, you could approach the ICO on the matter. They can be unhelpful in these matters, but it may be worth a punt.
It's only an issue if it's inaccurate or they have no reason to keep it.This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0
