There's more feedback about Ebico on our Ebico energy reviews discussion.

---

Ebico has introduced a new Prepay tariff in association with Robin Hood Energy which they report as being 8.5% cheaper than its Equipower and Equigas prepay tariffs. But the new prepay tariffs have a standing charge and in addition the Warm Home Discount is not available with the new prepay electric tariff. So maybe getting out the calculator is justified.

Personally, I think that far from fighting fuel poverty the new additional tariff is likely to create a two-tier class of customers which are those who don't get the Warm Home Discount and get the 8.5% lower tariff and those who do get the Warm Home Discount and don't get the 8.5% lower tariff!

Depends on the region. For my region the Ebico / RHE Prepay tariff quote says:

    Electricity
    Unit rate 12.6900p per kWh
    Standing charge 25.00p per day
  • I am currently a customer with Ebico for both my gas and electric and use there old supplier of SSE, I do also get the Warm Home Discount. I received the email from Ebico about 10 days or so ago now and I got a letter saying exactly the same thing. It has confused the heck out of me as I don't know which would be the cheaper option for the long term. I know that they plugging the Robin Hood Energy as green but to be honest, at this stage cash is King.
Is there anyone who knows more about this new deal than I do who could maybe give a bit of clarity on the matter, please?
    Thanks in advance.
    2015 I won a motorbike worth £5000.
    2016/17 blanked.
    2018 Intel i7 CPU worth £395.
    2019 49" TV from Freeview.
  • I got the letter as well. I went straight to the CAB office for clarification.
According to the CAB office, I would save plenty of money by switching to the Robin Hood Energy if they didn't have the standing charges. The bloke at the CAB office said that if I switched, I would save less than £10 per year. Not worth switching.

Consult a comparison site to find the best deal for you

Not only will a comparison site indicate to you which Ebico tariff would be better, but will also tell you how much more you would be paying Ebico compared to the cheapest supplier & tariff.

(The comparison site will not take into consideration any potential loss of the Warm Home Discount you may be entitled to - so you'll need to adjust for that manually)

I hope they don't end their partnership with SSE Scottish Hydro as I have gas with Ebico but don't actually use any gas. My bill is therefore always ZERO as there are no standing charges.

From the link provided by the OP
We are proud of what our partnership with SSE has achieved over the years. In particular, it has enabled us to offer a tariff, EquiGas/EquiPower, which does not discriminate on price between pay-as-you-go customers and credit (Direct Debit and pay-on-bill) customers.

EquiGas and EquiPower will continue to be available via our relationship with SSE plc.
Remember, this new tariff is only available to PPM customers (currently), and does not support WHD

It's a bit much that EBICO was founded on the principle that everyone pays the same rate no matter what sort of meter you have no matter what sort of payment method you choose to use.

And yet this new standing charge tarrif is only available to those who have prepayment meters.

It will also be interesting how Ebico intends to apply the sharing between direct debit customers and prepayment customers who are on the new RHE tariff and pay a standing charge.
Through EquiGas/EquiPower, Ebico offers Direct Debit-paying consumers the chance to share the financial discount commonly associated with this payment type with those using prepayment meters – a type of customer who are at more than twice the risk of fuel poverty.

However perhaps Ebico has been overtaken by the new Prepayment meter price cap:

  • Just got this email this morning. I have my gas with Ebico and pay on receipt of bill. My electricity is already with Robin Hood Energy so looks like I will have both gas & electric with them soon.

I'm currently paying 5.75 a unit on EquiGas but with the new Ebico Zero (RobinHood) tariff I'll only be paying 4.97.
