Just had a look on http://www.dvla-som.co.uk the results show AHS initials readily available, for a few hundred £$£$ inclusive VAT & transfer fees, so it has little value in that respect, so the LEAH approach is best!

Be wary, varrrrry wary of the registration dealers, as some are not quite as proffessional as they could be. Registration Transfers are established operators, but expect only to get around half of the plates real value!!

Think about the e bay route, leave it on the car, 'till you want it to be sold/transfered, it will then only cost the buyer their fees.

You WILL need £25ish for new plates & probably an admin charge, from your insurers for their paperwork changes!

  • Having discussed with hubby ,after reading your comments,we have decided to keep it as an investment , (even though he is on the loathing side of personalised number plates)
We know the current owner paid £200 ish 6 years ago.
So no harm in sitting on it for a while!

Hi we are going to buy a car on friday and it has personalised number plates on it.
I would like to know how we go about selling the plates and getting the best price for it.

" Personalised number plate 'L333 AHS' (leahs) to sell"

its a bit like having to explain the punchline to a NAFF joke ;)

L3AHS = Leahs when I went to school. Only an idiot would pay for a plate with three 333's IMHO!

The value of any thing is "What some one else will give you for it."

If it costs you nothing and you don't mind it, hang on to it and wait and see what you you will be offered.
I used to be indecisive but now I am not sure.

I agree it's hardly what could be classed as a "personalised number plate"

If I saw that on a car, my eyes would be attracted to the 333 and nothing else. I don't hold out much hope for anyone wanting it.
  • These sub prime plates are virtually worthless, I sold a motorcycle FAZ 3727 and kept the number which has to go on a retention certificate which cost £80 and used one of the major dealers to sell, after a year it didn't sell, so had to renew the certificate ( £25 a year ! ) kept dropping the price , it's just sold two years on and will net me about £150, hardly worth the hassle.
