Camelot - I used to take my beloved Dad little pots of fresh fruit salad, he especially enjoyed little bits of melon and grapes. Just enough for a small snack helped him get through.

My day is freezing, bright sunshine which only serves to fool me into thinking it's nice outside! The sea is sparkling and the sky is clear. I opened my front door to soak up a dose of sun and got a blast of icy wind instead. However, I saw that my bare root roses are growing, they now have greenery come up and so look a lot less than bits of twigs. AND then I looked out my kitchen window to see Tufty stuffing his / her face at the brand new squirrel feeder I put out the other day. Although I know it comes in most days because the hazelnuts are taken and eaten this is the first time I've actually seen it this winter. :j

So, two good things have happened already.

Caterina - how lovely to read your pleasure in a cup of tea, it made me smile. I have hopes of doing sugar free fortnight next week, the only downside is that wine is carbs is sugar. Mmmm, that'll need more thinking about. As my birthday is at the end of next month, and I traditionally only drink champagne on my birthday, things could go wonky even before it starts. :rotfl:

Right, Popmaster is on, the first chap was talking about him and his girlfriend selling everything and spending the rest of the year travelling around Britain, sounds brilliant.
  • When I was in hospital after my mastectomy I longed for a strawberry Mccyd's milkshake which is odd as I only have one about a couple of times a year on holiday with the boys as I don't like burgers etc.

When ever my DD came to visit she always brought me one, and its was always icy cold, and sweet and so refreshing as the hospital wards are always far too hot for my liking.

Afterwards when I started Chemo I would always have a bottle of lucozade and a bar of milk chocolate to get rid of the metallic taste at the back of your throat.

Whilst on chemo for 5 months it was a case of bland food all the time which was horrible as I am very fond of spicy stuff but it really makes you feel poorly.

In bed in the hospital you get really bored (well I did ) and music via an mp3 player that my son-in-law concocted for me, was great, he also downloaded some plays from the radio and my beloved Archers omnibus so I didn't miss anything. Often just lying there with some music that you really like makes such a difference. I was thinking this morning how lucky I am as it was 2007 when I was diagnosed and for a year it was hospitals chemo r/t and all the paraphernalia associated with it.

But at the end when I was signed off it was so worth it and I immediately enrolled at Uni to do my longed for degree, 40 years over due but it was me telling myself I have survived, and I am going to do all the things I thought I couldn't or wouldn't be able to. every morning when I wake up I think YES !! another day that the grim reaper hasn't got his mitts on me :):):):)

Life is so exciting no matter what age you are, OK so I can't dance the night away anymore ,but if I want I can spend it reading (my next favourite hobby ) or cooking or seeing my seven gorgeous grandchildren growing up What more can an old woman ask for in life :):):)

    Onwards and upwards

    Morning all.
Well the forecast snow didn't appear, not even one flake:(.
Going to have a general dust and hoover in a minute- well perhaps just one more cup of coffee first.
Woke myself and DH up last night- Oh dear this dratted cough.
Have to think about emptying living room cupboards soon as having new carpet fitted on the 1st.and can't move things when they are full even though some are on castors.
Going with DH at 3pm for his retinopathy appointment so I can help him see his way home. Good job its at the local county hospital and we can walk there and back because I no longer drive.
    Have a good Friday.

Youngest dd's new phone should be delivered here around one thirty and then need to post it first class to her. I also need to visit the medical centre to get a form for middle dd's jabs to travel to Colombia ( my baby  )

Middle dd comes round tomorrow night so want to get place tidied and meal cooked. I had an approved food delivery so have lots of low cal soft drinks in the fridge and have cooked chicken and fresh mushrooms to make something tonight.

"This Works" make a sleep spray to put on a pillow and it is very relaxing and combats "the hospital smell" . Boots sell it in various sizes. If you can find out what she "longs for" like a special drink, small pot of fruit, small bag of certain sweets or mints then that would be great. Maybe magazine with short stories that don't need a lot of concentration and can just be picked up for a few minutes?

    Hugs to all

    Hi all,

Just on at work (sssshhh) as there are only 4 of us (out of 14) in the office today. Not that I haven't got things to do mind....just having a little break :)

Camelot - lots of ideas already for your friend. I would second the fruit pots idea, plus the magazines (not that I buy any anymore, but they are a nice treat)

LWW - glad you enjoyed the spa xx

Caterina - WW vouchers are sometimes in Pr!ma or B3lla magazine - worth a look??

I finished the second part of the rugby club first aid course last night. I can now use an AED plus give CPR. I did struggle through some areas of the course as my beloved late nephew was given CPR by his neighbour and we watched the Vinnie jones advert (which the neighbour had remembered about luckily). Also we spoke about choking, which made me very teary. Need to get a grip.

I'm at a friends tonight for a girls curry night. I will be having shaslick as I'm trying to eat more sensibly. Had a cuppa soup and small sarnie for lunch, plus have fruit with me for snacks.

DH waiting to hear about the outcome of a second interview that he had on Monday. So frustrating. JSA has now stopped (he's had his quote?!) so we are almost £300 down each month now. It's such hard work keeping things ticking over. My trains have been atrocious this week due to a freight train derailment on Monday night. Hoping they have it fixed for next week as it's not fun being a sardine.

Hope you all have a lovely afternoon/evening.

    enjoy your meal out Caterina.
I'm at a friends tonight for a girls curry night.
    Enjoy your girly night Coxy.
Tonight is my colleagues last day before mat leave and we're going bowling and a little something to eat which will be good to let the hair down after a hectic day yesterday
Enjoy your evening too Speky. Reminds me of the last time i went bowling. For the first, last and only time ever. I hammered hubby. He looked a right twit in front of his work mates. Twas a few years ago and he tries hard to forget it. He gets reminded of it every so often (and not by me).:D
All is well with me. Havent seen not so prodigal, prodigal for a couple of days. I hope he's ok.

    Onwards and forwards,

    have a great evening all.

Camelot, I have spent quite a lot of time in hospital and I always wanted opal fruits as the air is so dry in there. Also I had a very limited attention span so magazines, as opposed to books, were brilliant. I used to sleep a lot and what with people coming to prod you every 5 minutes (or so it seemed!) a magazine was easy to read. I also wanted a box of soft tissues as the hospital ones are very scratchy. I hope your friend feels better soon :)
