THE LIVING ROOM IS FINALLY BACK TO NORMAL!!! Sorry for shouting. Actually, when we put it back together we found the curtains (which I washed rather than pay exorbitant dry cleaning costs) had shrunk by 2" so DH will have to lower the curtain rail. He tried to persuade me it would be easier to lengthen the curtains, hah.

Apart from that we're very pleased. I think that the room looks bigger with the light grey walls.

DH is going to be working from home today which will make my plan to bottom the kitchen more problematic. I always find it more difficult to work when he's here.

We're no longer having the cat because DS and DiL are only going for one night now. Her brother has been taken into hospital so they are coming home to go and see him. We'll pop down a couple of times to give the cat some company.
  • When my friend was in hospital for a mastectomy and other stuff, what she wanted was books for her kindle and visits which had to include fancy fruit drinks from the c*sta in the hospital lobby and fruit.
I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back

    Morning everyone.

I'm lazing in bed, sorry. It seems that I've been up and out each morning so now I'm having a little lie in. I'll be going down to Glasgow shortly so will get a move on soon.

A friend got in touch yesterday to say she'd packed in work and was going travelling for a year, she's only in her thirties, I'm so pleased for her because it'll be so good for her. In 1979 I took six months unpaid leave to travel round Australia by coach and still remember it as a brilliant time.

Anyway, breakfast is still yogurt. I'll take yet more cardboard to the recycling centre. The new food processor proved really easy to use when I got it set up to slice eight onions which are now in the freezer. Kitchen still smells of them.

    Happy Friday to all.

    Good morning everyone
Lovely sunny morning here but bitterly cold and a thick frost so the heating is being left on until hopefully it warms up a bit.
I need to get my proverbial finger out and do some housework so the place is semi-decent before the "girls" arrive this evening. Lasagne is prepped so I've just got some garlic bread and salad to make so an easy meal. I need to remember to make sure I've plenty of tonic chilled as we all like a gin or two.....
I had a bit of a "Victor Meldrew" moment last night - I have a food vacuum sealer which had stopped sealing properly as it was just still under warranty I contacted the makers and without any hassle they replaced it. Went to use the replacement for the first time last night and it's not sealing at all. Needless to say an email has been sent. The kit is easy to use so it's not me mucking it up- the sealing strip should get hot - this one isn't even getting lukewarm. Will be interesting hear what the company says.....
Hope everyone has a good day x

Sounds great LWW,I'm sure it did a world of good.
Off to walk the hound shortly. If I leave it till after 9 the road near the park is much easier to cross, although I prefer really to go earlier.

Going to do some food shopping afterwards, the fridge is looking very bare.DGC are staying tonight, very excited to see Daddy who has brought presents back from Austria ;)

When I was at school yesterday helping my friend in her classroom she mentioned that another friend we havent seen for a while was having a Body Shop party and did I want to go,so I did.I use the hemp handcream for very dry hands so I just got that and a new lipstick.A glass or 2 of prosecco may have passed my lips, and it was nice as I saw some people I've not seen for ages.

Right Ly1a is itching to go out so better get my warm coat out,its freezing.
    Have a good day xx

  • Good morning all,

Another gorgeous morning. Hope it's like this tomorrow so I can make the most of it however I'm absolutely shattered so a long lie might be on the cards.

Our works Burns Supper last night was really good fun but I didn't get home till 12:15am. Which meant I was out the house for 19 hours. Needing my coffee today.

Tonight is my colleagues last day before mat leave and we're going bowling and a little something to eat which will be good to let the hair down after a hectic day yesterday.

camelot - a voucher is a safe option but I always feel it's too easy/lazy.

    Good morning,

Nmlc thank you for starting the thread.

Camelot I agree with the idea of books and perhaps some herbal tea, peppermint helps with nausea if she is receiving treatment.

Dumpling I hope you manage to get a good rest during the day.

Lainey glad you are making progress with the clearing, please make sure to treat yourself well and with great compassion while you do all this, I hope you find ways of doing something nice for yourself.

LWW grrrrr (in the best possible way)! Really, so good to read that you had a fantastic time.

Snoozer great that your living room is done, light grey is very chic and very "now"! Post pics?

Gers You are lazying in bed sorry? Why sorry? Good for you! We should all take a leaf out of your book and have more lie-ins, it's good for the spirit (ask me why I know LOL).

Well, this morning I have finished my fast, which really was only a partial fast because I ate quite well, it is called the Daniel Fast and this is the second year I do it, consists of eating a vegetable, pulse and wholegrain diet, everything not processed, drink only water, no animal products, no baked or deep fried anything. A bit restrictive but very healthy. It is done for spiritual purposes but it also has the wonderful side effect of detoxing the body after the excesses of the Christmas season. For me there were no "excesses" what with being so ill, but I had eaten so much stuff that I normally don't, like white pasta, bread, cheese etc...

I feel much better but now, after a couple of day of re-adapting, it is time to get down to seriously looking at how to lose some weight. In the last year, due to stress and illness and generally not caring much because of my low mood, I have put all the weight on that I had lost.

Someone from church has opened a new weight watchers group and I am tempted to give it another go. I am rather worried because I don't do well on a low fat diet, it makes me desperately hungry and I cannot cope for long. Carbs are not my friends so I cannot fill up on pasta (it just bloats me). I will give it a try and see how it goes. Does anyone know of any special offers going?

    Today's plan:

DH made me my break-fast breakfast! Am delighted to report that my first cup of tea in 3 weeks is lovely! And I had garlicky mushrooms with baked beans and 2 fried eggs. The beans are too sweet, after all the time without sugar I think I will pass next time, or make my own. But the eggs were yummy.

At 10 I have a Pilates class then going to the cinema for a matinee of La La Land, last chance to use my last two free cinema tickets from the PictureHouse membership, I had forgotten about them and they expire on 30th Jan.

This evening DH and I are meeting with DS for a meal out, in a local pizzeria, but I know they make stuff like aubergine Parmigiana and rice balls (arancini) so I don't have to have pizza, much as I love it, it does not love me back, it makes my stomach bloat too much. Might just taste a slice from DS's one.

Sending well wishes to all the poorlies and hugs to those with sadness and hurt in your lives.

    Have a good day.
Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).
  • Morning all

Quick visit. I'm not really here, I'm actually turning out kitchen cupboards.

Camelot. I have often given people in hospital a pack of pretty notelets with the envelopes already stamped. Also eau de cologne infused tissues (you can find them in B**ts). Hope this helps.
