Texting on 3 mobile

Hi Everyone,

I've read all about the pro's and cons of using 3 mobile. I'm basically a texter and only make about 5 mins worth of calls a week. How does 3 rate at a text only service? Is the problem mainly associated with calls?

Cheers,

Dean

What problem, the network coverage? As I am sure you will of read if there is no 3 (3g) signal where you are then calls and texts are routed through the Orange network (2g) and your texts don't need the 3g network anyway.

Although not sure if this is what you are asking...

  • Yes, that's exactly what I meant. Sorry I wasn't clearer.

    thanks;)
  • If you are only a texter, I'd advise you to consider going onto Orange's Dolphin £30p/m tariff. It is quite pricey but you get 200 any time/network mins and unlimited texts to any network (fair usage policy of 3000 per month).... I'd be surprised if anyone goes over this!

It's on a 18month price plan so £30 x 18 = £540. Orange currently have an offer for anyone buying a 18month contract, which they will give £100 cashback (no hassle), so it will work out at £440.

But the Sony Ericcson K810i phone and you can sell this off for at LEAST £100, so overall cost of package is £340 divide that over the 18months and about £19p/m.

That's the best I can advise mate!
  • Why not try and O2 PAYG SIM. When you top up a tenner you get 300 free txts plus you keep the tenner which you could use for your calls.
  • Peter:
I considered the O2 PAYG deal, but I'll never ever use £10 worth of calls. I just don't like frying my brain. also there's no free phone with that deal and I need a new one.

Thanks, but I only spend about £15 quid a month right now and that's nearly all on texts. 600 is ample for me a month :-)

I think your best bet would be Three - if after your research you are happy with their general coverage and are willing to go for an 18 month contract they offer the best value for money on about 600 texts and minimal minutes.

600 texts and 75 mins is £15 - decent range of handsets for free. I think the current promotion on tmobile flext for £15 will only give up to 340 texts.

My sister is on Three and she finds some of their handsets slow for texting - mainly the sony ericssons, I've not really noticed but maybe I'm not up to her speed! She got a bit fed up with the ericsson and got a nokia and seems to be happy with that but it may be a style preference (Like you, she is a heavy texter and she swears by Nokias and Samsungs, less keen on motorolas and ericssons for texting)

If you know someone on Three you can also be recommended and you'll each get a £30 credit which gives you two months free. Quidco might also be offering cashback - but not sure as this is one of the cheapest plans. Hope you find what you're after.
