Judging by the OP's name I guess it was in Canary Wharf, there are a few banks head offices there.

How do you know the OP wasn't in First Class?
I commute by train and it is quite surprising the number of people working on laptops on business confidential or personal information, and who give no thought to who can see the screen.0 -
