Whistleblowing on a bank director?

Today I sat on a train. Next to me someone else sat down and proceeded to open their laptop and get on with their work. What struck me was I had to try not to see what were they were doing (!) - I was horrified that they were not using a privacy screen on their laptop. Why? Because they were a director of a major bank and I could see, if I chose, clearly confidential information. What for me is worse is that I have an account with said bank - and now have no faith in their ability to look after my data. I know the persons name, and have found out their email address. Should I drop them a line and hope they read it...or take some other direction?

  • If you really have nothing else to occupy your time then drop them a line, I am sure they will be most pleased to know about the seriousness of what you observed.

How do you know it was "clearly confidential information" if you were trying not to read his screen.
  • Is this the right forum? Anyway, how do you know they were working on clearly confidential information?

f you're concerned why not email the person in question and if you don't like the response raise it with the bank security team. I don't know what you think any of us can add to the discussion.

Why didn't you say something to him at the time if it was such an issue for you?

Wouldn't it have been simpler to have just spoken to the person at the time?

If you are really concerned complain to the director at the bank who is responsible for data protection compliance.

You don't really think "a director of a major bank" would have dealings with individual customer data do you?
