Dubai Airport/Hotel Transfer Info

Planning a short 3 day stopover in Dubai and would like help on transfer costs.

I have heard on grapevine that Dubai taxi's are pretty expensive, Just wondering if anyone can help.

2 people travelling, with estimated 3 suitcases, From Dubai Airport to Bur Dubai city area.

I had a brief look and found a private taxi transfer book on line for £44.00
Anyone with good suggestion? If I was travelling alone I'd use metro but ruled out in this instance.

Thanks

  • travelled to Dubai many times and taxi prices are far from expensive.
on arrivals taxis are directly outside and organised ,no longer than 1min wait and all are run by government, hassle free and they run on a meter so cannot overcharge,i would not entertain any private taxi in Dubai ,the government in Dubai control all transport.
metro also very easy and exceptional, taxi easier if you do not know your way around,as an example cost of taxi out to rugby stadium,30 min journey costs around £18.
    hope this helps.

Taxis are reasonably priced in Dubai. I'm sure we paid less than £44 last year, just getting a taxi at the airport rank.

I agree with other posters. I've been to Dubai on holiday and with work and taxi from the airport is straightforward and relatively cost effective. Your taxi from the airport will cost more than the taxi back as there is an airport surcharge. I've found Dubai taxis to be invariably easy to use and have never been ripped off...and I've taken a lot of them. If you're taking a taxi anywhere from your hotel, the doorman might try and put you into an 'executive car'. Tell him you want a normal taxi - it will be much cheaper.

Bur Dubai is on the metro. The metro is very easy to use and dirt cheap. The first ticket you buy costs a little bit more because it includes the cost of the 'Nol card' (a red card like an oyster card but made of paper). For future journeys you don't need to get a new Nol card, you can just top up your existing one. There are metro stations at each airport terminal. The metro is very clean, modern, well lit and safe.

Your challenge may come from finding your hotel from Bur Dubai metro, if you choose to use the metro. Directional signage is practically non existent. But all metro stations have taxis waiting outside, so if cost really is an issue you can take the metro to Bur Dubai and then just get a taxi for the final leg.

Saying that, if cost is an issue you'll have more problems than your airport taxi. Dubai ain't cheap - a beer is going to set you back the best part of a tenner.

I recommend the Irish village one evening. It's at Dubai International Tennis Stadium, and though the food isn't up to much there are a whole host of other restaurants up there. Just be sure to get a taxi back if you have a drink - public drunkenness (e.g. on the metro) is not well regarded.
