insurance claim...scam or not?

Options
I had a call this evening from a legal agency in Manchester (legal protection...can't remember the last word!) Saying that because I had an accident that was not my fault 3 years ago I was entitled to claim for some money due to the stress incurred. He said all I need to provide was the registration, date of the incident and the other parties car registration then I would be sent some document to sign then I would receive a check for £3500. This all sounds way too easy for that much money. He said that insurance companies should have called me but they don't because it means after 3 years they get to keep the money for themselves. I would like some advice please, has this happened to anyone else and it turned out to be legit? Or is this all one bit scam? Although I don't understand how it could be when they don't receive any bank details from me. Thanks!

Of course its a scam. They will be a claims management company (AKA ambulance chasers) who will submit a claim against the other parties insurers for injuries that may or may not be real.

They want to represent you so they can make money but will know nothing about any accident except you/your vehicle were involved in one. They will have no other info at all.

They get their leads by buying information from insurance companies, garages etc.

If you were injured or think you have a valid claim find your own solicitor/ accident claims company and help to consign these pondlife to history.

You might have guessed I have no love of these cretins, mainly due to being on the receiving end of numerous cold calls telling me the same thing they told you except it was for my injuries I could claim. The fact that I was asleep in bed when someone had slid into my car meant the only injuries I could have had were if I fell out of bed on hearing the impact.

So basically, they know all about it, and how much compo you can get, but have no details of the accident that entitles you to this comp-en-say-shun?

    What do you think :rotfl:
I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

(except air quality and Medical Science ;))

I know this is said time and time again, but an easy "scam detector" I use is that,
"If it sounds too good to be true, then it is too good to be true."
If anything fits that rule then I leave it alone.
Sticking to this may have cost me money over the years.
I really, really, doubt it though!

As a general rule I find that buying anything from someone who telephones you or from someone who knocks on your door to be the worst option

One of the oldest scams still going...

I don't know where you've been hiding to have never been on the receiving end of this before, but can I please join you there?

  • These people are complete parasites. I had a no-fault accident and they continue to phone two years on.

I get phoned by them and I've not even had an accident.

They just keep trying phone numbers randomly until someone says 'oh yes, I have...'
