well Im thinking more about charging points. I get the economics, just more about the practicality of fitting charging around work through the shift.0 -

A lot of the taxi firms have rapid chargers at the offices so the Leafs can charge back at base between Jobs, (Corby and Devon are 2 areas I know from experience doing this). Blackpool has put taxi bays in the town centre car parks with rapid chargers, and TFL are putting them in taxi bays across London,
Most Taxis will need only 1 20mins rapid charge in a 9 or 10 hour working day in towns and cities

ah fair enough. I'll admit if I was in the market for a new car i would heavily consider EV.
Had a look,I dont think Edinburgh is over endowed with charging points?0 -
if you are in Scotland an EV is a great choice as most of the Rapid Chargers are run by Chargeplace Scotland and are free
People make the mistake of looking for chargers where they "Are" what you need to look for are chargers where you "Go" at the end of the range of the car.
For Example I live near Nottingham, so chargers around Nottingham are no real interest to me as I charge overnighrt and start each day with a full charge (in my Renault Zoe thats roughly 200 Miles).
Most of my work days are in London 143 miles from home, so with the Zoe I can drive to London charge up during the day and drive home, so no need to look for charge stops, on other journerys the Motorway network chargers cover it, cant really think of anywhere in England that is more than 50 or so miles from a Motorway Charger. In Scotland its different but CPS have scatterbombed the area with rapids really well even in remote places.
Not having a spot to charge the car at home overnight is the issue for many at the moment, and I honestly would not have gone EV if I could not charge overnight, things need to improve with local charging hubs to encourage those people to move over
My Annual Mileage is 40 to 45k a year all EV,.. and it is just as easy as petrol/Diesel but at a 90% saving.. Would not be possible really without home charging tho..Over 100k miles of Electric Motoring and rising,0 -

Yes,regarding charging at home. Our drive is very narrow and about the length of an average hatchback making getting in/out and closing gates a tricky maneuverer. Would need to do careful measuring to ensure it was feasible if I went EV.
wont be this year for sure. Old car is running fine and not interested on taking on the extra cost.0 -

Agree there is no point moving till its financially beneficial. (I am not driving an EV to hug polar bears. I am doing it because its really a lot cheaper for me at the moment). I would not advise anyone to move to EV until the figures stack up well into it being a more financially beneficial mode of transport
For me. 3 Days a week in Central London the EV saves £40 in Diesel getting there, £11.50 in Congestion Charge and £45 in Parking so best part of a £100 a day 3 days a week (Plus my other mileage as well).. If they bought out a car that saves more but ran on another fuel source whatever it was I would consider it.Over 100k miles of Electric Motoring and rising,0 -
Saw a Nissan Leaf taxi the other day. Seemed a strange choice?
Woulds have though limited range and charging times would hit the fuel saving benefit?
Depends where it is. I read a statistic the other day that many taxis especially in cities are only doing 100-150 miles a day in which case saving about 80% on fuel costs plus significantly lowered maintenance costs may well make it a Paying proposition. I would imagine the taxi driver you saw had done the maths and is most likely making more money a day as a result.0 -
What was the outside temperature at the time? You need to test like-for-like.The mind of the bigot is like the pupil of the eye; the more light you pour upon it, the more it will contract.
