Streaming from iPad to Smart TV

I've been looking at downloading the occasional movie from iTunes to my iPad mini retina with the intention of watching it on my Samsung Smart TV
However, the little reading I've done seems to suggest that Apple doesn't make this easy.
The most obvious solution would seem to be an Apple TV but at over £125 that's one big outlay!
I was wondering if I bought/rented the same movies from, say, Amazon would I face the same difficulty. Would a work around be easier.
There is, of course, the chromecast dongle, a reasonably priced piece of gear. Would that do the job for me?
Another issue which occurred to me is where to store the movie: my Dropbox account, Apples online storage, or other storage. A small movie collection would soon eat up space.
Any advice about streaming from iPad to Smart TVs welcomed and maybe the best place to download movies and as always many thanks for your help.

Hi. You have to check first what video/tv apps you can get on your smart TV. It might me that you can even get Sky Store, but most probably netflix, now tv and amazon prime.
If your smart TV is not that smart then a stick like chromecast or fire TV would give you several options. Or even the nowTv box where you get most of Sky Movies. This last one would be the cheapest but apps choice is more limited0 -
Here is what I use to stream from my iPad to my TV.

I am sure there are lots of other ways0 -
kah22 - what model is your Samsung TV? It may have a way to stream from the iPad built in, or you may be able to stream movies another way.0

You can stream to an amazon firestick from the IPAD with airplay, but then you can just directly use it for Netflix, Amazon movies or whatever0

I have an apple TV but sometimes use a HDMI to lightning adaptor

So your phone/ipad is plugged directly into your TV and will mirror whatever is on your device screen.
The link is to a "genuine" version but no doubt cheaper ones are available.Save £12k in 2017 / Dec 2017 Travel Cash = £12,400 / £14,000 88.5%[/COLOR]

The most obvious solution to me is Chromecast but it doesn't work with iTunes. There are various methods of tweaking it which I haven't tried because I'm not a fan of tweaking. Google it. But generally if you must have iTunes movies then you also need Apple TV.
However if you can cope with Netflix or Now TV Sky Cinema you can cast both of those to your TV with Chromecast.
(1) Buy Chromecast for 30 quid
(2) Download Google Home and Netflix and/or Now TV from the App Store
(3) Look for the Cast icon in Netflix and/or Now TV
There is also the Sky Store but I haven't tried it.0 -
By Firestick and it has Netflix installed, no need for any other device to cast from0
