HSBC Current Account

I've only just received my card, and after a long and fruitless call to their customer services was told that they couldn't answer any questions because I hadn't set up my telephone password (the application form for which only arrived today). The lady I spoke to suggested I go into branch to arrange the switch despite being told previously that I would get a call to arrange. So my question is this, given that it is now over 30 days since my application was accepted and sort code and account number created, can I still organise the switch and get the payment?
HSBC are a total nightmare, btw.
Yep - 'accepted' doesn't mean 'opened' and you get 30 days from opening. And she wasn't very helpful because you can set up your telephone security code on the phone with them. ..
from post #27:
"got nothing until yesterday, Thursday 02/02/17 - and then just a debit card - no pin - no telephone code. But the debit card shows ac no & sort code (obviously). So I go back to the registration page... but it needs the telephone banking security code.
So I ring the helpline and after much frustration with the automated call answering I finally get to an agent - who tells me she can help.
So (note) after security checks (DoB, Card Number (although already entered) etc - which they confusingly call identity checks) she puts me through to an on-the-phone system where you key in your chosen 6 to 10 numeral telephone banking security number... twice to be sure.. then transferred back to her, for a bon voyage, and any other ???s & offers to send a video of how to register.

After all the delays I had experienced with phone and on-line services, I decided to go into branch to see if they could help me. All the staff I spoke to were helpful and knowledgeable, and they got my switch sorted out in 20 minutes with a guarantee that I would get the incentive. If anyone else is struggling I'd give this a go.
Sadly, I think this means I've reached the end of the switch incentives road now, but it's been a lucrative and only occasionally frustrating ride!0 -

Glad you got it sorted. The branch does seem to be much more helpful. My partner is still waiting for his card and it is getting close to a month and a half wait now! Glad I went to First Direct instead...0 -
I received my card a while ago, but was couldn't use the account without a telephone banking.code. I received a letter I had to return to get one. It said the number would be sent in 6 working days. I waited for over two weeks, then getting fed-up I phoned them.
It took several calls and about two hours of my life, but I got the needed number by phone, set-up telephone and online banking, with a secure key on my phone and agreed a switch.
One lady I spoke too was quite stern, gave me a telling off because the switch was going to be over the thirty days. She said I should have phoned earlier to resolve it, then agreed to pay £200 into my account within 48 hours.0 -
Been waiting for a response from them since Jan 27th.....0

Still waiting here since January. Only want it for the Regular Saver. Though might not be any money left after doing all the Virgins.0

My OH applied for one and after about 5 days got a letter to say that she needs to take ID and proof of address into a branch to progress the application. No idea why as we have our mortgage with them so they are fully aware of where we live. I've been with them for many years and am happy with their service, however their account opening service looks pretty poor based on this experience.0

I tried to apply online but after filling in all the information (30 minutes), the website crashed. I rang the number it gave me to apply on the phone and that call took 2 hours!!! I was told that I wouldn't have to go in to the branch. After hearing nothing (it's now been just under four weeks), I rang and was told I'd have a welcome pack after four weeks. When I said it was already nearly four weeks they changed that to five weeks. I said I didn't believe what he was saying as he'd just changed the timescale to suit himself (and get me off the phone). I asked to speak to someone who knew what they were talking about. The person who came on the phone called me by my maiden name. I insisted that he got in touch with the accounts opening department to find out what was happening. I got a call back from a third person after half an hour and I could hear someone in the background telling him what to say. I was told I'd have to make an appointment and go in to the branch to complete the account opening process. I've asked for the application to cancelled. It doesn't instill any confidence in me when the first dealings I've had with this company has been so bad. I've spoken to three different people who have told me different things, one couldn't be bothered to call me back himself but got someone else to ring me who had to be told what to say by someone in the background. The girl who took my application originally gave me wrong information too. I dread to think how a company with such poor customer service would handle my money and how they'd deal with any subsequent query after the account had been opened. I'm afraid no incentive deal is worth me switching to such a bad company.0
