Waiting for heart bypass and insurance

We are due to go on holiday in 5 weeks and my husband is getting chest pains . He has a stent from 10 years ago and he thinks he may need a bypass. We are travelling for my daughters wedding and he's worried if he goes to doctors he won't be able to get travel insurance. Anyone know if he would get insurance ? We already have a policy in place but he would have to declare this new information if he went to doctor

Please get him to go to his gp. Chest pains especially when he already has heart disease shouldn't be ignored.Lost my soulmate so life is empty.
I can bear pain myself, he said softly, but I couldna bear yours. That would take more strength than I have -

When applying for travel insurance they normally ask if you have ever had heart problems, so he won't "get away" with saying no (if he survives that long without treatment!)
Make him go to the Docs now!!
(On a practical note point out to him how much this will end up costing should he take ill abroad and his insurance is voided when they discover the truth)0 -
But that's why he won't go to doctors because the insurance know he had stents fitted ten years ago, so if he doesn't go to docs with this they won't know so he will be covered.0

and if they find out ?0

I assume he's worried that he then won't be insured and so won't be able to go in case something happens while abroad. But does your daughter really want her dad to risk his life to attend her wedding?
Plus it's going to ruin it for you because you'll be so worried about him.
Get him to the doctors. It may turn out to be something minor and not even heart related!0 -
Your husband is a selfish idiot. You and your daughter should get together and tell him that unless he goes to his GP now then the wedding will be postponed, and it'll be his fault.0

So he'd rather ignore symptoms and risk actually having a fatal incident while abroad just to save a few quid on insurance? The man is an idiot and needs to be told so, what would ruin the wedding - him not being able to travel for his own safety or him dying abroad?Sam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:
People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

Will he though? Were something to happen the question will be asked about his symptoms with his history.
He is being very shortsighted about this. I'm sure your daughter wants him healthy.Lost my soulmate so life is empty.

Firstly, if he has chest pain - ACT NOW!
(no end of people not here who ignored such things)
Secondly, if he is seriously ill with heart conditions, worried about the same while flying at over 30,000 feet for hours with no paramedic or ambulance able to get to him (which is what I assume is planned) is about as much additional risk as you could imagine.
Thirdly, you are right - if he goes to the doctor (to save his life we might figure), this may mean his insurance company will NOT cover him to travel. If that is the case, then they will, assuming his prior health was all declared, be forced to pay a cancellation claim.
That may be small comfort BUT the alternative of travelling uninsured with such conditions would be unbelievably dumb. Costs would be extreme for so serious a condition, he would not be permitted to fly for many weeks and / or need a medical repatriation. If you want to sell your house to pay for this ... maybe your daughter will have to do the same (it HAS happened).
So if all that felt a bit unsympathetic - I do hope he gets seen pronto and it sorts itself out or can be "fixed". But, ignoring this this is not choice any sane person will dither over, as is clear.
It is true once treated, he will not get travel insurance easily / cheaply until his recovery is well underway. But, that is the least of his concerns right now!I am just thinking out loud - nothing I say should be relied upon!
I do however reserve the right to be correct by accident.0 -
