BT "All in" line rental and broadband

Options
Seen that BT will start combining these as part of the general price increases in April. Why? Has this something to do with the telephone and broadband companies getting complaints for dodgy adverts advertising competitive broadband fees with the line rental stated elsewhere in small print?

It's already in force. Came into effect about November time last year. Not just BT though, all ISPs have to now show the total monthly cost

The idea was if you wanted broadband from a company but a condition of that company was that you had to take that company's line rental , then showing a price for line and a price for broadband was misleading or irrelevant, as you had to buy both anyway, ( the likes of Sky and Talk Talk don't allow you to have their broadband with someone else's line rental,) although they may have legacy customers who have this, new customers don't have a choice.
BT are slightly different as that have to allow other (usually smaller /niche) broadband providers to 'share' a line, so with BT you could have separate BT line rental price and broadband from someone else, but when it comes to BT Broadband they also now show a combined price as you have to get BT line rental with BTB, and show a line rental for people who don't want broadband at all or broadband from someone other than BT who offer 'line share' type broadband

The annoying thing is that it has generally been an excuse to increase the total price (though some providers are now doing better offers) and all because people thought the ads misleading.

They were not as common sense should tell you that free or very cheap broadband must have some kind of strings attached and you should read small print anyway.

Ok. I didn't know if it was the starting parts of rumours last year that BT would start soon trialling broadband packages without landlines/calls as Vodafone and alike have launched earlier. The only reason we have a landline is because of broadband

The Vodafone no-landline service is something of a gimmick - the cost is more or less the same as other providers' Fibre+Landline services, but you just don't get the Landline.

the "no line " option still requires a physical pair and standard maintenance charge , you are just not have a phone number

But the moaners should be happy ,as they don't have to pay for a phoneline ; just wires.

I'm sure there will eventually be good value Broadband-only services, it's just that this (the Vodafone offer) is not it.
