Hi, I wonder if anyone can help!!!
I have a Blaupunkt TV with one scart socket and one HDMI socket.
I am wanting to connect my new freeview box with the HDMI socket, but, is it also still possible to connect my DVD player via the scart socket at the same time
Thanks

Yes ... they'll appear as different Inputs on your TV.0

It is likely that you will need to press a button on your remote control to select the input source, it'll probably be the button with the symbol labelled 1 in this image (but it probably won't say SOURCE, it'll just have the symbol).0

As above, but for reference.
HDMI is the standard digital cable used to carry HD images and sound
SCART is an analogue cable used to carry SD images and sound0 -
HDMI is fairly easily worked out as High Definition Multimedia Interface but someone asked me a while ago about the acronym SCART. I had to look it up! It's French - Syndicat des Constructeurs d'Appareils Radiorecepteurs et Televiseurs0

What this means is that SCART will give a poorer picture from DVD, you can get a 3 to 1 HDMI auto splitter, you need to check the specs, this is cheapest on ebay but it says it does not support Sky or DVD, I think that depends on model as I have a similar one and works with

This one is £1 more and does not have that warning

Usually pressing play makes them autoswitch or with some devices you turn off one and the other activates. Thanks, don't you just hate people with sigs !0 -

Complete rot!!!
DVD is at best standard definition pictures (576 active lines in the UK) and - provided RGB is used rather than composite via SCART - will provide as good picture quality as is available from the source DVD.
Some SD devices actually produce better pictures via SCART than via their own hdmi connection (Humax 9300T pvrs, for example).
@OP The DVD player and Freeview box can (should) auto-switch the TV to the correct external AV source when powered on {some DVD players may also need to have a menu or play pressed to do this}. :beer:0 -
To avoid any confusion to the OP - what you planned to do is fine and the remote control for the TV will change the input between them as previously mentioned.0

Unless you're using an old CRT all flat panels (LCD, plasma, OLED etc) will upscale/downscale to their native resolution therefore it can make sense to upscale using the DVD and output the source via HDMI rather than output 576i and get the TV to upscale this.0 -
Actually it depends. Most DVD players will upscale to the resolution of your choosing and often their upscaling for SD content can be far superior than the upscaler on a cheaper TV.

Thanks I was not going to bother arguing, when someone says "complete rot" and then qualifies it by saying "IF you do this" I find it oxyMORONIC.
There are always people like this lurking in forums.
Of course you are absolutely right that it is better to upscale from source.
I have tried Scart, including RGB and ALWAYS get a better picture on HDMI, still I am sure he will respond with some sheeeety blah blah blah. Thanks, don't you just hate people with sigs !0
