I can't find the recipe from tghe above link but the Christmas cake recipe in the Dec Good To Know mag has 200g of dark chocolate.
I WAS going to do Delia's, but this has chocolate & nuts (walnuts & hazelnuts) in.
Have you ever made a Christmas cake with chocolate in?
Bit scared to make it & it be no good & the Christmas cake is ruined:(0 -
mmmmmmmmmmm the one thing I would be concerned about is if the chocolate would spoil and how it would react to being "fed", seen as it is a christmas cake I would be tempted to do the Delia one this year (which I do every year and have done for a long time now, I am a bit late this year though it is going to be done on Sunday along with Delia's pudding yum yum yum yum
) then maybe have a practice with a chocolate one throughout the year next year maybe???
So far as the nuts I can see no problem adding these to the Delia recipe if that is what you like it should not cause any issues or affect the mixture in anyway.

I make fruit cakes with grated dark chocolate in. They give it richness and because of the black treacle do not really taste of chocolate. Are there any spices in the recipe?0
-
I have seen recipes using cocoa powder to give a cake depth rather than chocolatiness.
I once tried a tea loaf with fruit and dark spices by adding dark chocolate chunks. It was edible but not for me, I'm afraid. IIRC tho, hubby and eldest liked it well enoughLove and compassion to all x0 -
To answer the spoil question, its designed to be fed.
There is the usual dried fruit, sugar/molasses, eggs, flour, mixed spice, cinnamon, lemon rind & juice
quarter bottle of brandy
200g of 70% dark chocolate
Walnuts
Hazelnuts
Daren't post the recipe, its not allowed.0 -
I have all the bits to make my xmas cake however we have a bottle of rum that we want to use. Can I replace the brandy with rum or even whisky. I really don't want to have to buy brandy if something else will be fine.0

I've used rum in the past. Last year I used Southern Comfort and this year it's whisky. Whatever leftovers I have really!0

I just can't get my head around anyone having 'leftover' Southern Comfort!0
