Lefty nonsense
I take it you never worked in non service jobs. One of the reasons I left my manufacturing job was the dirty air. Not quite as bad as smoking but probably half way there just to go do your job and I was mostly in the offices and labs the working men were always on the plant. I recall two of the men died during my time there. But at least they had ladders to climb....actual ladders....they were all in the same jobs for life almost none went any further.
Your lot are funny, you sit at work browsing the internet complaining how hard life is now and how unsatisfied you are. You wouldn't last a week in 1950 before you were crying to come back
hahaha this is spot on. life is good (as long as you are mentally stable).0 -

That's a large chip you carry on your shoulder. Anyway this is 2017 not 1950. Times have moved on. Much in the same way that my Grandmother started worked in 1911 at the age of 13 in a commercial laundry. Didn't kill her though. As survived to the grand old age of over 99. Then like now. All about attitude. Simply getting on with life. Doesn't change the concerns over dumbed down work life for many that exist today.0 -

What makes you think that?

I use a tiny amount of what I studied at the polytechnic and a lot of life experience to do it.
with the employment stats and people i know most of whom have jobs.
probably only one of my friends without a job but he hasnt worked for 7 years and hes my age (34). his parents are well off though.0 -

You are the first person to ever say that. What is the chip I carry on my shoulder?Anyway this is 2017 not 1950. Times have moved on. Life is good in the UK now. Life is easy in the UK now. Not so much 2+ generations ago
If you are depressed or unhappy you need to look into improving that. Its not down to the economy or taxes or rich people its in your own head if you are unhappy in the UK. It could also be the people you mix with if they are mostly negative and depressed it will rub off on you0 -

Sometimes a different viewpoint can be mistaken for a chip. I think I must have one too because I don't agree with "pulling the wool over people's eyes" when it comes to universities. In fact I don't really like anything that is misleading in order to prop up vested interests. Encouraging students to attend university to make a school's league tables look good is something I really don't agree with. The school is using its current students as a means to attract new ones by encouraging them to do something which may not be in the best interest of the students concerned. It is in the interest of the teachers and staff though because they get paid if the school has students. I think that schools should be banned from advertising where their students go after leaving. Perhaps they should be required to advertise what sort of jobs their students get and how long they are unemployed for. That would be more realistic than what they do now.
This thing with universities saying how many students get jobs after certain courses without saying what sort of jobs should also be banned. It is misleading advertising as it implies that the students get graduate level jobs not what they actually get. I am sure if this was any other product than a university course this kind of advertising would be banned as misleading. The information should say what kind of job the students get. If most of the fashion students get jobs working in shops selling clothes the courses should say so and then the students can decide if that is what they want to do with their working lives.
If this means I have a chip on my shoulder I would encourage more people to have one.0 -

Regarding negative and depressed. I don't think you actually mean depressed do you? People use depression to describe people who are negative because they are angry that they can't get what they feel they are entitled to but this isn't depression. Depression is an illness. You can't just get rid of depression by spending time with positive people. It is difficult to describe depression but basically what happens is that your brain starts to generate negative thoughts on its own a bit like getting a headache that isn't triggered by anything. So you can have friends who are the most positive people in the world but that wouldn't stop you getting a headache and it won't stop your brain from generating negative thoughts if you have depression. Being with positive people wouldn't stop you from getting flu. Being positive can't cure a broken leg or any other illness and depression is the same you can't get better only by being positive.
The difficult bit with depression is trying to work out what are the negative thoughts that your brain is generating because you have depression and what someone not suffering from depression would worry about. Sorting out the depression generated worries from normal ones is actually quite difficult when it is all going on in your head and it all feels very real.0
