Isn't the govt badly skewing the market by allowing everyone the same loan on the same terms? The market would certainly not offer the same loan to an undergraduate studing medicine at a Russel Group uni to one studying media at a former poly....

Exactly the point. This is social engineering. It may not be called that but in the world of unintended consequences you have a result that is NOT in the best interests of society.

The easy solution is the government to limit tuition funding to STEM, English, Business & Teaching courses only. French/German/Spanish language teachers can simply be imported if we don't remove them from the high school syllabus

Brad Pitt wannabes join the panto, Picasso wannabes can open MS Paint, photographer? Build up you instagram. I heard a girl doing bachelors & masters focused on the damn wine industy! And so many others focusing on art galleries etc

English and business studies are the only crucial non-STEM subjects in school, and PE to avoid more fatties.
French/German/Spanish teachers can be imported without a burden to the tax payer
PE teachers can be anyone with a teaching degree who isn't on the sex offenders register
Politics wasn't taught in my school, nor does it need to be
Drama can be taught by any failed actor with teaching degree (maybe) not on the sex offenders register (but should really be removed from syllabus)
Art can be taught by any failed artist (but should really be removed from syllabus, what a doss lesson...drawing some dodgy vase/bottle). Art has no place in the classroom beyond primary school
Food class can be taught by a mom with too much time on her hands & OU teaching degree (didn't mind this class)
History is a tricky one but teaching degree + Wikipedia lesson preparation is as good as any degree in history

100%. Why should £30k go on a failed art student

There was a newspaper headline a while back where a politician attended the opening ceremony of a new HE drama school. Some bright spark pointed out that it might aid a few people's personal development but would propel extra people into an already overcrowded job market with a dire employment record. Hardly anybody with degrees in it make their living in showbiz.

Or a dad.....or also those of any sex without children.
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.

Sorry if some consider this off topic
Recruiting French/German/Spanish Profesors is considered by some posters a simple thing. Where will they come from and what would be their incentive to take the job?
Too often the answer to any problem is much more complex than first thought.

From France, Germany and Spain. France & Spain are the easiest to fill (comparative/worse home nation salaries and previous empires mean cheap African/Latin American labour if closer to home proves difficult). Just as Chinese teachers are imported from China. German proves more difficult to fill (higher salaries at home) but maybe there's enough available like all the people lining up to teach English abroad.

Or better yet, scrap foreign language classes and make Asia stop dominating Brits in STEM.
