My time has finally come......

Options
Yesterday I got 'the letter'.....My DLA will be stopped next month, and I am invited to apply for PIPs.

Tomorrow we will make the phonecall...and then the form will be sent....possibly (probably) a face-to-face (including the usual fight to get the face-to-face done at home).

I know that I am entitled to PIP. I have been on an 'indefinite' award for DLA for some years (Lower Rate for both components) and am aware that my care needs have increased.

I have done one of those on-line self-assessments just for interest, and it looks like I should be well into the 'enhanced' section for care and 'standard' for mobility.

I have been down this road a few times with DLA (and similar path for ESA)...so why am I so nervous?

Why is it that the government has produced a system that leaves genuine claimants quaking in their shoes and distrustful that they will have a fair hearing?

Providing they recieve the forms before the date on the letter you DLA will continue until a decision has been made on your PIP. You'll be needing evidence also to support your claim. I'm sorry to have to say but being on an indefinate award for DLA will make no difference to you PIP claim. You have to prove your diffculties in daily life and it isn't easy. Evidence is your key. For a home assessment you'll need a letter from your GP stating the reasons why. Good luck.

Likewise, I'm an OAP and have papers everywhere trying to fill in the transfer claim from DLA to PIP They have only given me 3 weeks to fill it out. I am on HRM & MRC indefinite DLA.
I too tried the self assessed test on benefits and work and came out with 0 points for both!!
Still I will get the form done best way I can. No help available from CAB or others - One agency quoted me the 17th Feb before they could see me - the form has to be back by the 7th Feb!! Don't trust the DWP to agree to an extension of time and not noting it on their files only to find that they close down the DLA award and cancel to PIP application because it wasn't with them by the original date.
Could do without all of this. Still I have now started to budget our spend based on losing DLA and not getting PIP. It's hard as the costs that DLA covered are still there and have to be paid.

Have you actually asked for an extension?

I see lots of people applying for PIP and everyone who has asked for an extension has got it - and It's been adhered to.

It's also worth noting that help is available. Unfortunately because of the pressures they are under the advice agencies (including CAB) could not get you an appointment by the due date - which was why I suggested to you, in your other post, that you sought an extension

@Prinzessilein. Those of us who deal with these forms regularly fully understand how stressful this is. As has been said the good stories don't appear on forums like this. It might well be a good idea to get help with the form

    Good luck

If you can get some help filling in the forms, my friend has had 3 pip awards and all bar the last once went well. Even the last one it just changed from enhanced to standard.

    Good luck !
Play nice  Just because I am paranoid doesn't mean they are not out to get me.:j

It's always worth asking for the extention. In all fairness they're pretty good with extending the time. Just tell them that you can't get an appointment within the time then ask them to send you a letter confirming the extention. That way you have proof if need be. Anything has to be better than doing these forms yourself. They're very complex.

No not yet, first of all I need to wait for the CAB to get back to me with a date. The agency that quoted the 17th I didn't take them upon it for the reasons I gave.in my post above I simply do not trust the DWP, I have had some very difficult times with them over the years with lost post, poor/bad/totally incorrect advice etc. They even fudged their defence in a Tribunal - they said that the had sent a letter but I had never received it, When I asked them to prove it they told me that they don't have a copy on their file but do have a note on the file cover jacket that says it was issued - the judge believed the DWP!!
It's the 23rd now and not having heard from the CAB (or the DWP even when I was told that they would send someone to help me when I made the phone call on the 7th January to start the claim off) I think that the best is to make an appointment with the other agency. I haven't tried AgeUK I suppose I could ring them also today. Then when I get a definite date I can only but ask the DWP for an extension AND GET THEM TO PUT IT IN WRITING!
  • Do the DWP do a good job at filling out these forms for you? Or do they do it in a way that benefits them only?

You said you don't trust the DWP so why have them help you fill the forms out?

I'm quite relieved to read this, OP - I saw the title and thought you were dying!

Good luck, be as thorough as you can on the forms, and remember that you only tend to hear the nightmare stories, people don't tend to come on websites asking for advice when things have gone well.
Unless I say otherwise 'you' means the general you not you specifically.
