Roadside Assistance Response times

Lol to much of the above. I've been a sub 10 mins wheel changer in my day, but also had recourse to AA assistance for a wheel change on two occasions.
The first was an overtightened front wheel, I managed to get the nuts off, but the alloy wheel was so tight onto the hub that I couldn't get it off. Incidentally that was in a very remote location in the north west highlands, and the AA were with me in ten minutes - just as I had settled down to wait and lit my camp stove to make a coffee!
Second was a hi-lift jack failure. Land Rover was fully up on the jack, wheel changed, but the jack wouldn't reverse to lower it back down. Felt pretty foolish getting the AA to get my vehicle back off the jack, but hi-lift jacks can be lethal, so better safe than sorry.0 -
I guess your above average wheel changing skills at least make up for the abject failure that is the rest of your life
Mm. I don't know what exactly I've done to offend you, but don't you think a judgement like that should be based on some kind of... evidence?
I'm quite happy with my life, thanks; I'm certainly not envious of whatever makes you so special.0 -
I've had the RAC turn up inside 15 minutes once, when I lost all power on a dual carriageway, and once waited for 5 hours, albeit with reasons for this (the place we had broken down in apparently had 3 different variants of the same name within a couple of miles, he'd been to the first two, then his recovery vehicle had an issue so another one was sent out but it had to come from a long way away)
The explanation I was told is that apart from priory (kids, single women at night) it's literally a case of where the mobile guys are when you ring in terms of how far away from you, how busy it is and how long the previous job takes. My 15 minute guy was because he'd got to a job 5 miles away and it was a quick one so he was then available almost as soon as I'd called. My original 5 hour guy was starting over 60 miles away and was on a job that took much longer than anticipated, then obviously the other issues happened.0
