Thank you all, i appreciate the answers.

I will call the dealerships on Monday to arrange test drives and also ask them about whether my son needs to attend.

I sat with my son last night and we added a few to our 'maybe list' after your comments yesterday, so thanks for mentioning that the one we like might actually not be the one that we like when we are sat in it.

    So we are deciding between:

    1.4 Vauxhall Corsa SRi http://www.motability.co.uk/cars-scooters-and-powerchairs/search/vauxhall-corsa-sri-732631

    1.2 VW Polo TSI http://www.motability.co.uk/cars-scooters-and-powerchairs/search/volkswagen-polo-match-725833

    1.2 Skoda Fabia TSI http://www.motability.co.uk/cars-scooters-and-powerchairs/search/skoda-fabia-se-730079

Does anyone have any immediate thoughts about those cars? I like the Corsa for the bigger engine size, but the Skoda has the best reviews.
  • Have a look at Seat Leon bigger boot, but it is slightly a bigger car that gets really good reviews and just like Fabia,Polo all fall under the VAG group

Thanks bigbulldog, i'll have a look at that car too.
The main reason i chose i smaller car is because parking here is on-street and can be a nightmare at times.

All those are lovely cars but if you're a family the boots are rather small. Bulldog is right about the seat leon. I chose an SUV as needed a car which was easy to get and out of. I also needed an automatic. It really depends on what suits the needs :)

Also with motability here (N.Ireland) not sure if it applies to mainland UK we were given pin number by post to give to dealer upon collecting new vehicle, think it was to put new car on system, make sure if you have one to bring it along...

Yes, the PIN authorisation also applies in England. This is the final confirmation by the customer to the Dealer and Motability that the car is suitable and the various other conditions are acceptable.

I have to say, I tend to agree with other posters on the vehicle shortlist. The range of Motability vehicles available on £0 advance is massive, so there is no financial incentive to choose something small when a slightly larger vehicle might be more flexible in the longer term.

A friend of mine recently picked up a Honda Jazz on Motability/£0 advance. It's a really great car.

Oh i like the Seat Leon, just did some research on it. Yes, maybe a slightly bigger size would be a better idea.
    Thanks :)

I actually watched a few youtube videos about the different cars i chose before i test drove any. The reviews are great. There are many cars out there with 0 advanced payment. Depending on what level spec you want a lot also have this payment.

Do make a point of taking all cars you see for a decent drive which should show up things like how hard/soft the suspension is,how wide the doors open and just how much room is left in the back after you put in any mobility aids etc in case you go on a longish trip and need to pack suitcases.
My wife checks my postings for me these days and just reminded me there was a post quite some time back on here from someone who got a BMW 1 series and was on here only several weeks later complaining they could not live with it due to low seating position and hard suspension and wanting to know if they could change it,so please choose wisely and best of luck...

Just a thought, as tight on road parking is an issue, make sure that the car you choose comes with parking sensors. I think many Motability suitable models do but not all, and it makes a massive difference to being able to park without too much stress. Good luck, I hope you find a nice car that suits your son.

I have back problems that make long distance travel uncomfortable, but my son had Leon and I found the seats quite comfortable for a 2 hour journey.
