Virgin Broadband - haggling

Options
I'm a virgin broadband and calls customer and my offers/contract has expired. I would usually haggle a new deal and enter into another 12 month contract, the only problem is that I am planning to move in with my girlfriend this year so I don't really want to commit to another 12 months. Has anybody been in this situation and/or have a solution?

I'm now paying circa £40 pcm for up to 70Mb broadband and a phone line I don't use. The best deal I can find is broadband only up to 50Mb at £22 pcm with £15 activation fee with 12 month contract.

If I did enter into a new contract I think I would be liable for £15 pcm in cancellation fees so it's touch and go whether is worth trying to get Virgin to match this. You can see my dilemma!

    Your basically stuck!

    1. You can't move to another supplier as the minimum term is 12months+ (unless you are going to move to a new house and are able to take the contract with you (openreach)

    2. A new deal with virgin will lock you in for 12 months.

You will just have to move in sooner with your GF :rotfl:

I'm sure she will find the reason very romantic! :rotfl:

Is your GF in a VM cabled area?
If she is, you might be able to transfer the new contract to her place - of course also depends on what broadband contract she has...
Alternatively, speak to VM and ask them for their best deal without a new contract. They might do something - they have with me in the past, but must admit the last negotiation involved a new contract.

We're buying a house together so we don't know whether it will be in a VM area.

so best solution is to ditch VM, move to someone on the openreach network, and then you should be able to transfer it to a new place ? ?

I'm thinking about getting a MiFi device as I live in a 4g area and I should be able to take this wherever I go with minimum hassle!

What deal did Virgin give you when you got a discount without entering into a new contract Victor?

While this is certainly true the other thing that is true about 4G is that unless you are not going to download or stream any video be prepared for a hefty bill. Reckon on each GB of download you get in the contract to cost close to £1 or more.

4G isn't a viable replacement for unlimited fixed BB unless you were a long way off needing unlimited.

while mifi would be very useful when you move into your new place.

and maybe an option when you have found and tied into a new place.

I don't think I would be cancelling a contract where the minimum term has ended just yet.

I think your only paying £10 a month more than the going rate.
