I know! It's a bit stressful with the first international trip post-pandemic but just get me on that plane 🛫
Thanks, I didn't want to focus too much on weight loss this year (i.e. the number on the scales) but it's nice to see some changes!South_coast said:Wow, cracking result on the weight loss. Overpayment made to the mortgage this morning so we're now under £238K which is amazing to see, especially as we seem to be paying off over £1k each month, thanks to our low interest rate 😁
Oh and forgot to mention that I managed to negotiate my mobile phone bill down as the contract had ended. I was on a SIM only plan anyway but have finally managed to add my NHS discount to it which meant I could up also add a roaming package so I can use my data / minutes allowance pretty much anywhere in the world without paying extra 👍 So I'm basically getting more for less which is always a win.Emergency Fund - £8572.39 / £10,000 :: Mortgage OP 2025 - £LISA 24/25 - £3200 / £4000 :: NSD 2025 - 2 / 150 :: Books Read: 1 / 52 :: Decluttering - 4 / 1000Engaged 9th December 2010 :: Married 29th October 2015 :: Bought a House 13th January 20173 -

Your sim deal and your OP's sound great.
Very inspiring
DON'T BUY STUFF (from Frugalwoods)
No seriously, just don’t buy things. 99% of our success with our savings rate is attributed to the fact that we don’t buy things... You can and should take advantage of discounts.... But at the end of the day, the only way to truly save money is to not buy stuff. Money doesn’t walk out of your wallet on its own accord.

Thanks both! The only way we're managing the OPs is that we're paying the exact same amount to the mortgage as we were with the old deal, and as the standard payment is lower, it means we're essentially paying the payment and clearing the interest without paying any more than we did 👍 Taking advantage of that now while we can, knowing that when we look to move in 2 years time, the mortgage will go up as will the payments probably 😆LadyWithAPlan said:Your sim deal and your OP's sound great.

Well August has gone really quickly, mainly because I've been focused on trying to get ready for our first proper holiday in 3 years. I usually get anxious before a trip but this is a whole new level, not helped by all the horror stories I've heard about baggage issues at Heathrow, the fact that most of my "holiday" clothes don't fit, I'm really paranoid about getting CV19 (or just sick in general) and my mother keeps texting me with warnings from her best friend who lives in Florida about all the gun violence that's happening there right now 😔
I have a list of all the things I need to do / pack and so far have managed to tick a lot of things off of it and have chucked everything I "need" and around my suitcase, which will get edited down and packed properly on Saturday / Sunday morning. It doesn't help that I woke up on Monday with a really sore throat, congestion and a cough - it's not CV19 but is still making me feel rubbish and not helping with the anxiety.
On the money front I've done the payday shuffle today and I've actually ended up with £500 leftover from last month. No idea how but I'll take it as a buffer for the trip and anything left over will go into the holiday pot for the next trip. Mortgage wise we're still waiting on DH's inheritance to make our big OP for the year; there's been an issue with getting money back from the council for extra council tax payments apparently. But its still good to see the amount going down over the month.
On the MSE front I took advantage of the free Gousto box offer that was going around on social media earlier on in the month. Not only because it was free food but also because it meant that we would be minimising food waste before we went away. Plus I ordered the box for 4 so we could put the extras in the freezer to have when we come back 👍
Anywho that's about it for an update this month. Next update will probably be when we're back in September with all the holiday news and updates on the money situation once the first of the month has passed.Emergency Fund - £8572.39 / £10,000 :: Mortgage OP 2025 - £LISA 24/25 - £3200 / £4000 :: NSD 2025 - 2 / 150 :: Books Read: 1 / 52 :: Decluttering - 4 / 1000Engaged 9th December 2010 :: Married 29th October 2015 :: Bought a House 13th January 20176 -
