Sorry to hear about the holiday @ruby_eskimo I know people who have just returned from IOW and had a lovely time so good choice.  PS. I rate the "Headspace" app for mindfulness if you haven't tried it already.

Thanks, I think I was more sad at the idea of not being in Prague than the loss of the holiday itself.  It's a special place to us and we would have been there on the 10th anniversary of when DH proposed on Charles Bridge.  We were planning on recreating that evening with dinner in the same restaurant etc, just minus him slipping over in the snow on the way back to the hotel.  Neither of us has been to the IOW before so it will certainly be an adventure *fingers crossed*.

I have used Headspace in the past and have just seen that they're offering free access to everything for NHS staff till the end of the year so off to download and register for that, thanks!

It sounds like the book project has been quite cathartic. I'm glad you've been able to put the experience behind you and you're now working for a boss that appreciates you x

Thanks SC, it certainly feels like a massive weight has been lifted and I've finally been able to just let it all go.  It used to define me and I almost turned myself into a martyr because of it but not any longer.  It took so long to adjust to working in an environment where I have time to sit and think and brainstorm and create stuff that may or may not be used, rather than slogging it out every single minute of every single day.  My new colleagues still find it strange that I went from heading up a department to this weird advisory role that I'm in now.  I keep telling them that this was a sideways move and you shouldn't always have to push to be at the top, you can find your niche elsewhere and be just as happy and earn just as much money   Saying that, I think I might be losing some of my more technical skills because I haven't had to use them in 9 months so there is a bit of a downside.  Something to address at my annual review I think.

Last day of work for me this week, hooray!  Kind of failed with the NSD challenge again as I ordered the last of the Christmas presents I needed to get yesterday, including DH's finally (and maybe a little treat for myself...)  My credit card balance looks a bit scary but I know that the presents will be covered by the rest of the Christmas pot and the holiday bits are coming out of the holiday pot.  I'm also waiting on refunds for a couple of things so they will clear most of the "treats" and everything will be ok.  I earn air miles through my credit card so will be interested to see what the balance is like by the end of the year - I might have enough to pay for a flight to Florida next year if we're lucky!

Morning all!  Had a lovely few days off - brunch out on Thursday followed by cheese and wine that night and then a stay in a hotel on Friday with a lovely meal.  Really appreciated our little taste of normality before the announcement which we knew was coming.  Not going to dwell on it.  We're well stocked and will just hunker down and see what happens.

Little money update this morning that we've managed to get the EF to £3000 now thanks to DH's bonus and the house pot is at £2000 so we've hit at least one savings target for the year already!  Will do a proper update tomorrow once the mortgage payment clears and I know what OP I need to make to round it off a bit.

Morning all!  Quick update today as feeling a little under the weather this morning but think its just a cold so not too worried.  I would be working from bed in my pyjamas but have to run my third virtual training session of the week later on so have to look presentable for at least the next hour.

Mortgage payment cleared yesterday and I made a OP of £104 to round everything down and the balance now stands at £252,600 but hoping to find the extra £100 by the end of the month to round it to a more palatable £252,500 instead.  Managed to cash out another £19 from Prolific so added that the EF and have some more coming from Topcashback soon as well.

Thanks BS, feeling a lot better this week - think it was just a lot of anxiety manifesting itself physically and making me feel run down.

I know, I keep thinking of ways I can just pay it off but then maxing out the savings is a better option for me at the moment.

  • Morning all.  Penultimate student loan payment went out today so just £122.15 left to go next month huzzah!  It's only taken 12 years, basically the entire time I've been in the NHS so far :hushed:

Cashed out another £15 from prolific and topcashback over the weekend so that's been added to the EF which is over the halfway point now and growing a little every day.  Need to look at our energy bills and home insurance as both are coming up for renewal next month so will put some time aside at the weekend to take a look into those.  Hoping to save some money or get some cashback if I can.

Finally got round to buying an exercise mat yesterday as my rug on the wooden floor isn't cutting it anymore when it comes to pushups etc. so bit the bullet and ordered one alongside a new sports bra as I've found a style I love but needed a second one as I've now started the Couch to 5K plan (for about the millionth time).  Did the first "run" last night and felt really good afterwards and no aches this morning which meant I could carry on with a regular workout.  Will see how it goes over the next 9 weeks but I've always wanted to run 5k and maybe this time I'll actually get round to doing it.
