Issue resolved. Basically my bank's record of my address was held in a wierd format. I had them update my details in a different format that was more similar to the format given by a post code search. 24 hours later (time period advised by the bank for them to update my details) I attempted to place another order with CPW and it appears to have gone through (just recieved my shipping confirmation).

Again my above point stands about a human override, any sort of human operator would have been able to determine that my address was leading to the same place but just being shown in a different manner. I am not saying that any service staff should be able to do it but surely trained supervisory staff should be able to have some ability to even look into these issues.

Anywho thanks for the advice everyone, I am happy to say its all resolved now :)

How exactly could a Carphone warehouse member of supervisory staff check your bank address and see that the bank had used a different format to the standard post code match.

staff simply haven't got the time to ring up every time someone hasn't bothered to change bank addresses etc etc.

so you'd be happy with a supervisor selling mobile phones having the ability to be able to have access to your bank account and peruse your personal info held by the bank?

    Really?
    ====
  • Supervisor already knows my account number, sort code, card number(s) and address. I don't think much more information can be given out by your bank, from a single payment its not like they are sending them my entire account history.

All I am saying is that a human would be able to distinguish that:
    HOUSE NAME
    STREET NAME
    VILLAGE
    POSTAL TOWN
    REGION
    POSTCODE

    is the same as
    HOUSE NAME
    POSTAL TOWN
    REGION
    POSTCODE

The latter being what shows up on their postcode search, the former being my full address as held by the bank. As someone who has worked in the logistics business the latter is all that is needed to find my address, in fact any address system worth its salt would not make any distinction between the two, the system that we use simply match's up the House name or Number+Street and postcode, none of the other crap makes any difference to an address lookup anymore.

Anywho its a moot point, phone arrived today and I am happy with it.
  • Had the same issue. Having had an argument with them over the phone I walked into O2 & 20 minute later I was walking out with a new phone on contract!

Just wondering if anyone could suggest what to do next? I'm half tempted just to buy the phone outright on amazon & run a sim only deal but I would much rather take advantage of the carphone offer thats on (for January only I think).

You'll almost certainly end up paying less and getting a more flexible deal if you do that and should there be any issues with the device you don't have to deal with Carphone's beloved policies that ignore consumer law
