Faulty Laptop

The laptop is less than 6 months old. The supplier initially stated I must send it to the manufacturer under the warranty terms! I have told them it is their responsibility! They make it sound as if I 'desire to deal with them?' This option was never given to me originally!
Are they within their rights with their following (quoted from their reply)
****Please note, given your desire to deal with us, rather than the manufacturer directly, we would be acting as a middleman and it would be required for you to return the device to us at your own cost. This will prolong the repair process.
To begin this process, please follow the below listed guidelines:
· Package your device up, as you originally received it, with the original box, documentation and accessories.
· Print a copy of your invoice, writing on it a brief note, indicating the reason for return and what action you desire we take; please include this in the return.
· Place the box in some form of covering for protection, a black bin liner will suffice.
