Sitting here in Luxembourg just a few kilometres from FRANCE it still seems all to play for.
The thoughts of a National Front President should frighten and does frighten many people in the rest of Europe.
And yet those holding the power within the EU are doing what exactly to lessen the chances of Le Pen becoming president?
How are they showing the French people that they are willing to reform, as it appears that so many in France would like them to?0 -
A report in Yesterday's Irish Times:Britain will not pay a so-called divorce settlement that could be as much as €60 billion to the European Union, a group of TDs and Senators have been told.0 -

I think Britain should not pay a penny. Like in any divorce people should not pay a penny before all of the assets and future liabilities are mutually shared.
The team GB should also claim EU assets which is estimated €152.5 billion. UK has been a net contributor to EU budgets for a few decades.

Germany lost the war twice and learn the lesson.
In military term most of EU countries will be defenseless if NATO cease to exist. It does not take long for Russia to invade Germany and small EU Countries if they do not get help from NATO and other EU countries.:rolleyes
I think UK would have a more negotiation power if NATO ceased to exist. Let the small EU countries such as Luxembourg (Where Juncker is coming from), Belgium (Guy Verhofstadt) defend themselves.
Here are the negotiation team from both sides

The following chart is showing who is subsidizing other EU countries

GB needs to tie up with allies outside EU countries, e.g developed nations which include UK former colonies such as US, SA, SG, MY, CA, NZ, AU as well as JP, China and Korea.0 -

It may surprise you to learn that there are many countries that GB invaded and subjugated and subsequently left divided and impoverished that aren't very keen on the British at all.
I mean many British are still pretty bitter towards the Germans (Two world wars and one world cup etc.) and they were on the winning side in the war. How do you imagine the Kenyans feel for example about the Brits for conquering them and then killing a bunch of them when they suggested, quite forcefully I admit, that they didn't really fancy being run by a bunch of white, public-school boys.0 -
I've been a net contributor to my local gym for many years.

Interesting, so presumably if Scotland becomes independent as you hope they do they'll get jack in the way of assets and they'll have to borrow billions in order to buy the minimum they require from us?0 -
The most fundamental point here is that plenty of EU nations enjoy significant trade with the UK, and vital access to the City. Some of these have very troubled economies and eye watering unemployment levels, the last thing they need is self inflicted harm by hampering trade.

When the stories were about the UK paying into the EU for years after Brexit I must have missed your post saying how you looked forward to paying gym fees for years after you cancelled your membership.0 -

It appears you don't know the difference between a consumer and an investor.0
