    And what if

Your analogy is ludicrous, the suggestion didn't mention junking the processor

Do you have a more effective solution? How do you suggest they find the part that's causing the problem?

Plenty of diagnostic techniques have been offered by numerous posters on this thread.

It is only your suggestion of flattening the machine before these are carried out that is ludicrous

Part of the problem I know is, I have this windows on for a long time without a fresh install
    :)

The op doesn't think it's ludicrous

    ^^ Ignore that rubbish

You made it clear from the very beginning that we disagree on the fastest route to a resolution, so why are you still chipping away at every word. Let's drop it. You have your way, I have mine, I was trying to help them avoid a lot of wasted effort.

The OP can make their own choice which to follow, if any, or carry on as they are.

Well following your logic, the answer to every single thread on this forum could be "no, reinstall it".

The OP stated - read again carefully - that he didnt want to do a fresh install..

He didnt ask for the fastest route to a resolution, you are defending your pointless suggestion with more pointless arguements.
Not for the first time today, making yourself look rather silly in the process :)

among those 'pointless arguments' which you are so keen to either generate, or involve yourself in, there are repeated attempts at dropping it from me, but you can't resist not dropping it, nor can the other know-it-all, which I think indicates why you are here. Neither of you are able to follow my logic apparently, so just stop trying, stop quoting, leave me alone

the floor is yours again, help the op, vents checked, what's next.

Well, if it was me, the first thing I would do would be to back up my data then uninstall programs that were easy to reinstall to see if this made any difference.
If that didn't work then I might consider a fresh windows installation but it certainly wouldn't be my first option and it's not something that I would advise anyone to do as a first step for something that may be a very easy fix.

Assuming that the OP has all the necessary installation discs they may still have to spend a while updating the installation and as most sensible people know, there can be problems encountered when installing large programs.

As George Michael asked (and you seem to have ignored), how do you know that the problem isn't being caused by something that the OP will have to reinstall back on to their computer?

Have you considered the possibility that your logic doesn't make any sense?

Hi was your ssd installed recently? with you having 7 installed ?

Reason I say this is because your processor may be old and other components, your ssd may "bottleneck" the system?

    Sounds like you either:

    a) engaged the services of someone who knew what they were doing; or
    b) engaged the services of someone who knew how to justify their time.

    :)

    (a) most definitely (it's his job);
    (b) charged me buttons (friend of a friend)!

I usually don't seem to know the right people, but this time I struck lucky :)
