Can't get the deal advertised due to one late payment

Options
so I decided to order a BT Package and service started on 9th December 2016, only nine days later a bill was generated and I was expected to pay by the 23rd of December. This was an initial bill of £120. I explained I couldn't make the payment this month and I payed the bill in full on 2nd of January. I also liked the looked of a BT Mobile deal which offered a free £80 amazon or itunes Voucher. After applying for the deal over 6 times online and 5 days of talking to various different people online and over the phone I have been told today that I cannot order the deal advertised online as I have made a late payment. I can order over the phone but this does not include a voucher. There was an alternative I could get the deal but would have to pay £75 today as a deposit and will receive it back in 6 months time. I feel like utter rubbish I have a good job with a good credit record but I am unable to get the same deal as most people due to one late payment on a bill which I wasn't expecting to arrive so quickly. I can see nothing in their terms and conditions regarding this?

If you have a good job and are responsible with money then not having £120 to pay a bill is worrying.

Don't you have any rainy day fund?

You've paid your bill late and now have to live with the consequences.
  • You don't have a good credit record with BT though, I think they're being very fair with you in offering the deal at all.
  • Hey thanks for your input, I forgot to mention I only moved house in December and have three children and obviously Christmas is in December but I understand what you're saying and in hind site maybe should of just left Christmas presents and paid the bill.
  • My contract only started in December so explains the bad BT credit record after one payment, which was late. Should of maybe skipped Christmas or left the BT package until after Christmas but did not expect a bill to be generated 9 days after my product was turned on, I'll learn from this experience and move on.

Some communication/entertainment bill payments are made at the time of agreement to take the service, line rental, tv and broadband being payable in advance. Only extra services or non-inclusive calls are paid for in arrears.

It's not BT's fault that you hadn't put enough aside for Christmas presents/celebration and the bill....and some people are faced with worse choices than between paying a bill (to get an extra offer) and cutting back on Christmas. They have to choose between cutting the use of heating or food.
  • Hey Teddy's Mum I understand what you're saying with regards to bills in advance but don't understand why you're talking about heating or food? This discussion is irrelevant my original point was I shouldn't be penalised based on one late payment considering my outside credit rating is really good and I have no late payments on my credit report. Anyway I've decided to go with another supplier. Thank you to all the fab comments :) and suggestions/ideas ect
