BT double charging?

On a recent visit to my elderly Mum, she expressed concern that her BT bill was higher than normal. It turns out that she'd been charged £18.39 for a 118500 call to a hospital where her sister was seriously ill. Now these directory enquiries calls are a total rip-off and BT should be ashamed of themselves exploiting mainly elderly people who are unable to use the internet.

However, it transpires that she had been charged twice for this, and two other cheaper calls, once in October and once in December. The guy at the BT call centre blamed a 'computer glitch' and gave a refund. I asked him whether BT were going to contact all the other customers affected by this 'glitch'. He said that it would be impossible to contact so many customers.

I really don't know how these companies get away with this sort of irresponsibility but it might be a good idea for BT customers to check their recent bills.
